Story & Lesson Highlights with Gilbert Gonzalez of Oak cliff and Carrollton

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Gilbert Gonzalez. Check out our conversation below.

Gilbert, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
What brings me joy outside of my career path, is photography. I really enjoy walk around the city, museums, malls, antique stores, different cities, concerts, etc. taking photos.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey everyone. My name is Gilbert Gonzalez. I’ve been a Tattooer for 8 years now. I tattoo in a illustrative style of tattooing. Bold and fine lines to bright or muted colors, warm and cool tones. And everything in between!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
For tattooing, my close friends who brought me up. At the shop I apprenticed at. For my work ethic, my father. He worked all the time. So we could have the things we needed, when growing up.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
That it is very ok to fail! Its how you move forward from learning your mistakes.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Partially. I’m not the biggest fan of putting the real me out there. I feel when people do that, it kind of takes away of what makes them human. Leave a little mystery for people learn about you. When people meet me, they can instantly tell I listen to heavy music. Which is true. But I really do listening to calming music. Post-Rock, Norah Jones, Max Richter, etc. And people are pretty shocked when they find out what other things I’m in to.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
To feel the most peace, would have to be when I’m photographing/attending a concert, tattooing with my headphones, walking at White Rock, drawing/painting at home, receiving licks and hugs from my dog, Dusty.
