Community Highlights: Meet Melissa Fryburger of Body Mindfulness Holistic Health

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Fryburger.

Hi Melissa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi!

My name is Melissa Fryburger and I am a licensed massage therapist here in Seven Points, TX. I am a seasoned therapist with 14 years under my belt and absolutely love what I do and truly care for each and every one of my clients. I am a Christian, a wife, and mom of 4. There’s always room for learning something new, and I hope I can help you to see that there are many ways to fix any problem. Life is a blessing, and I have been blessed with a passion for helping others heal the body through natural ways. I am proficient in Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, PNF stretching, sports, prenatal massage and ayurvedic cupping. I also offer infrared sauna sessions after a massage or can be used at your leisure. I am an alumni of Healing Hands of Holistic Health in Escondido, CA and graduated 2011/2012 with my HHP and 1200 hrs under my belt. I am a native San Diegan, transplanted to Texas in 2021. Blessings have been abundant since we moved. I owned a practice for 6 years in California and have now been open in Texas for now 4 years. I found out my purpose in life when I was 31 and have run with it ever since. I have a love for people and how amazing our bodies work when we give them the right tools to thrive.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. Being the new kid on the block, from California (as some people have preconceived ideas about all people who come from Cali), and being in a much smaller community; where everyone is learning to know, trust and respect my practice has taken me 4 years to build a good foundation so far. I was also under the impression that I would be able to transfer my license over from California to Texas, no problem, but that was not the case. I ended having to take my MBLEX test again after 8 years, so the first year we lived here I was actually taking positions as a server at a few of the restaurants around here. That was also difficult being a server, as they get paid $2.18 around here and I was leaving with maybe $60-$70 a night. In California the minimum wage for servers was between $12-$14 plus tips which helped it be a livable wage and I was able to do serving for most of my 20s,
I am very entrepreneurial minded however, and was blessed and able to open my own practice again in February 2022 and although it has taken me 4 years to build it up, I have been able to find many other opportunities around the lake that have helped supplemented our income until it can flourish on it’s own. I am also blessed my husband owns Grass Roots Mowing which has taken off this year. I embrace the struggles as they are just lessons that help us get closer to our goals and destinations. I am extremely grateful for a very supportive, loving, team minded family that helps with those harder days.

As you know, we’re big fans of Body Mindfulness Holistic Health. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
This one is a little more difficult for me to express, as I do not like to boast about my practice or what I do. I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ and believe every person who comes through my door is there on divine appointment, and through my words and my hands, I am there to receive them and help them through whatever is ailing them. I love the human body and how it was designed and created and how, if given the right tools, is amazing enough to heal itself. Each person has a different need, so not one massage is exactly the same. Some people love to talk while on the table and some people love the quiet, calming atmosphere and would rather enjoy the massage in silence. I try to listen my client’s needs and address what they are looking for at that particular time.
I love Trigger Point Therapy as you can help release pain quickly that way, but am also known for “stripping” of the neck and spine muscles and moving the lactic acid out of the muscles so fresh blood flow can move through the muscle and the pain will be flushed out.
I think what sets me apart from others is the empathy I have and the good listening ear that people sometimes need. I try to make sure that in each session my client feels my attention is fully on them and accomplishing the goal they came for.
My favorite brand of essential oils that I use on most my clients with each session is DoTerra Essential Oils. I have used them for my family and clients for over 13 years for both aromatic and therapeutic issues. The oil I use is a fractionated coconut oil that most people aren’t allergic to.
I would love to leave this message with the readers – that their bodies are amazing universes within themselves and given the proper tools, nutrition, movement, exercise, love and attention we are capable of living a wonderful quality of life, which then we can share that knowledge with others and our future generations to come.

What matters most to you? Why?
I think kindness and love matter most to me because life is hard. There is not one person I have come across that has not, at some point in time, encountered some form of hardship or darkness or loss that has made this journey in life a little less tolerable to be in. A gentle smile, a nod of acknowledgement, a listening ear, a hug – a kind word can change a whole mood for someone’s day. I believe we are here to shine light in this dark world. We are only here for a short amount of time, so I try to treat others in a way that I will be remembered for kindness and love.
