Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrystal Young.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The image will forever be etched in my memory: a Dixie cup filled to the brim with prescription pills, representing both my mother’s hope for healing and the beginning of her decline.
My journey into holistic health began long before I knew it would become my life’s work.
Shortly after I was born, my mother was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. I was raised in a doctor-oriented household where medication was the primary solution. Over the years, as complications arose, more prescriptions were added. By the time I was in my late teens, I vividly remember my mother showing me a Dixie cup filled with pills – explaining that most of them were meant to treat the side effects of the medications she was already taking, the primary one being for diabetes.
Her health steadily declined over the years, consisting of congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, a detached retina, dialysis, poor circulation, double below-the-knee amputation, legal blindness, followed by the removal of her right eye. The list felt endless and I would often ask myself, when will all this medication start working? When will my mother finally get well?
Watching her transition from an active X-ray technician to being confined to a wheelchair was heartbreaking – and transformative.
In the summer of 1995, I attended a wellness event in the Chicagoland area that would change the course of my life. There, I met Beverly Nicholson, an extraordinary woman whose knowledge and passion for health were undeniable. She spoke about colon cleansing and the critical role gut health plays in overall wellness – concepts that were completely new to me at the time. I was instantly drawn to her and felt compelled to speak with her after the event.
Our meeting felt divinely orchestrated. Beverly gave me her home number and asked me to call her. I knew, without question, that this encounter was not a coincidence. When things align with such clarity, there is no other explanation.
Meeting Beverly marked the beginning of my holistic health journey, a path that ultimately led me to become Beverly’s personal assistant.
In January 2000, I was blessed to travel to Greece on a 10-day cruise with Beverly, where I met a holistic doctor named Wanda. She specialized in iridology – the study of the iris – a modality I have never encountered before. We connected immediately, and I shared my mother’s long health journey with her. After an hour-long conversation, I was captivated by both Wanda and her depth of knowledge with iridology and holistic health.
By the end of the cruise, Wanda offered to come to my home to teach and certify me in iridology. On November 4, 2000, I earned my first certification. Wanda often told me, “I’ve never had a student grasp this as quickly as you have.” Iridology remains one of my greatest passions and is one of many modalities I use in my practice today.
Since then, I have continued to expand my education and expertise. I am Board Certified as a Functional Practitioner of Natural Health and hold certifications in Iridology, Ear Candling, Foot Detoxing, Nutritional Consulting, Reflex Points Therapy, Biochemical Individualism (targeting weight loss and nutrition based on body type), Frequency Vitals Testing, and Voice Frequency Testing – both of which can be performed virtually via Zoom.
I also maintain an office in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where I see clients in person once a month.
What began as a search for answers for my mother became my life’s calling: empowering others to understand their bodies, reclaiming their health, and discovering that healing is possible when we address the body as a whole.
My mother transitioned from complications of diabetes on December 7, 2004…my 38th birthday.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path to becoming a holistic practitioner was not smooth. While my calling felt clear, the journey to honor it was filled with hesitation, resistance, and moments when walking away seemed far more practical than pressing forward. With holistic health not widely accepted during the time of my initial studies and becoming fascinated with it, choosing this path often meant standing alone. I encountered skepticism from those closest to me who feared I was pursuing something uncertain and unconventional.
There were seasons marked by financial strain, long hours of study, and the quiet pressure of proving that this work was not only valid, but a necessary alternative to allopathic approaches. I invested in my education to serve a greater purpose. Many days and nights were spent questioning whether my passion would be enough to sustain a functioning practice, or if I would be forced to abandon my calling for something safer and more stable.
What made the struggle especially personal was knowing that the answers I was seeking came too late to change my mother’s outcome. That reality was and is still heavy. Yet, it also became fuel with an unshakable determination to ensure that others would not have to feel as powerless as I once did. Every obstacle strengthened my resolve to bridge the gap between symptom management and true, root-causing holistic remedies.
With each certification earned and every client helped, my confidence grew, not because the road became easier, but because I learned to trust my intuition, my training, and the body’s innate ability to heal when properly supported. The challenges refined my purpose and deepened my compassion. They taught me that healing is not just about knowledge, but perseverance, humility, and unwavering belief in what is possible.
Today, those early struggles serve as the foundation of my practice and my passion. They remind me that transformation rarely happens in comfort, and that the most meaningful callings are often born through adversity.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My practice is built on the belief, if you were not born with something, where did it come from… the body is designed and was created to heal itself when given the correct nutrition and support.
I am a Board-Certified Functional Practitioner of Natural Health specializing in iridology, personalized nutrition, and frequency-based wellness assessments. My work focuses on identifying the root causes of imbalances, rather than chasing symptoms, allowing clients to gain clarity about what their body is either lacking or needing support.
What sets my practice apart is the integration of both physical and energetic modalities. From iridology and biochemical individualism to frequency scanning. I use a comprehensive approach that honors the uniqueness of every individual. No two bodies are the same, and their protocol is never treated as a generic template. Everyone is treated as their own unique individual.
I am especially proud of building a brand that prioritizes education and empowerment. Clients are not passive participants in my practice; they are active partners. My goal is to help people understand their bodies, make informed decisions, and feel confident in their health and wellness journey.
While I maintain an office in North Fort Worth with many of my services available virtually via Zoom, I also have an office in Oklahoma City and see clients in person once a month with limited services offered, but more will be added in the near future. This allows me to support individuals regardless of location, making holistic care both accessible and personal.
More than anything, I would like for readers to know that taking control over your health is key. My work is rooted in compassion, experience and the belief that when we address the whole person as a unified system, true transformation can occur.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I value most about living in North Fort Worth is its rare sense of balance, the warmth and familiarity of a close-knit community paired with effortless access to the dining, shopping, and other amenities of a thriving metropolitan area.
There’s a sense of calm that allows for a slower, more grounded pace of life, as opposed to growing up in the city of Chicago, this is much slower than the big city. I value the friendly, southern hospitality atmosphere, the ease of getting around and the feeling of not constantly being rushed. All the above align with the wellness-centered lifestyle I strive to live and share with others.
North Fort Worth also offers a strong sense of growth and opportunity. With so many new areas of construction, it feels like a place where people are building businesses, families and futures, while still maintaining a sense of tradition and connection.
What I like least about living in North Fort Worth, like any other growing area or community, is expansion that comes with its own set of challenges. As the area continues to develop, there is more traffic and congestion becoming more noticeable and the calm, slower feeling once defined the area can sometimes feel harder to accept. Additionally, while the area is evolving, access to more holistic, wellness-focused resources still feels limited compared to larger or more established wellness cities.
That said, these challenges also reflect growth and growth brings opportunities. It is very exciting to be part of a community that is still expanding with unlimited opportunities.
