Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Lisby.
Hi Tamara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Awesome Times started with a dream my husband Jerry shared with me 23 years ago, even before we were married. He always knew he wanted to own a restaurant — not just a place to eat, but a place where people felt comfortable, welcomed, and connected.
When we finally took the leap, we didn’t do it alone. From the very beginning, our community showed up for us — helping during the build, donating time and resources, and cheering us on before the doors ever opened. That support gave us the confidence to keep going, especially in the early days when we were learning everything as we went and wearing every hat imaginable.
There were times during the build that we didn’t think we were going to financially make it to completion. Many times I came to Jerry and said baby, I just don’t think there’s enough money to finish. And every time we had those fears, someone in the community would show up and help us out. It honestly could not have been built without the help of a ton of people.
Today, Awesome Times is still built on that same foundation of community. We’ve grown, evolved, and learned a lot along the way, but our goal has stayed the same: to create a place where people come together, celebrate life, and make memories. We’re incredibly grateful for how far we’ve come and for the people who have helped make it possible.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been many many many growing pains along the way. And it has for sure not been a smooth Road, but I would say the road just had mini twist and alternate pass that let us on the bigger and better things. Every struggle, every hurdle, every bump has helped us get stronger and helped us learn more And we feel totally grateful for them all.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Awesome Times, we’re a community-focused restaurant and bar that specializes in approachable, crave-worthy comfort food made fresh, along with a welcoming space where people actually want to spend time. We’re known for bold flavors, rotating specials, and creating an atmosphere that feels relaxed, fun, and inclusive.
What I’m most proud of is the culture we’ve built — both with our team and our guests. People don’t just come in to eat; they come in to connect, celebrate, and unwind. That sense of belonging is what truly sets us apart. We’re intentional about consistency, hospitality, and showing up for our community, and we think that’s why Awesome Times feels different the moment you walk through the door.
We’re also most proud of our staff. We have the best staff we could ever dream of. I’m without them. None of this would be possible. They give us they’re all and we’re so grateful to them all the time.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’m gonna answer this about Jerry. Jerry has always been motivated and driven. And always learning. He pushes himself harder than anyone else could push him. He dreams, Big and doesn’t let things stop him. He’s been this way since I’ve known him.
Pricing:
- The only thing I could say about our pricing is that we try to be extremely family friendly. We have kids and know what it’s like out there. And we try very hard to keep our pricing affordable for all our clients. We want to be the place that you can come to a couple times a week and afford to have a decent mail.
