Check Out Manuel Tamayo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel Tamayo.

Hi Manuel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always been handy and crafty. I use to run a clothing line between 2016-2024 called (thirteen). It was very DIY and punk. I always create based on what’s around me and my interests. Nowadays, I am a very novice woodworker but very proud of the pieces I have created. Aside from that, I love to mix house music at home and record myself from time to time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like anything in this world, everything that has ups always has downs. I am very blessed to be able to experience, to learn, and to grow from any creative endeavor I partake in. One minute you’re so proud of yourself, the next minute there is self doubt – but the fact that you did it in the first place is the point of it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am currently a novice self-taught woodworker and an occasional house music DJ. As stated before, I use to run my own clothing brand, (thirteen), between 2016-2024. With that endeavor, it taught me how to run a business and have a very self-made, self-taught mentality. It was very punk and DIY. I have brought that into the wood pieces I make for my home. They are very brutal, minimal, and punk – you can see exactly how they were made. I am very proud of myself and all of my work since 2016. Again, I think it takes a lot of courage and confidence to do or make something with your own two hands and one brain. That is the point of it all.

Additionally, I love house music. Specifically, Latin tech house music. I mix at home and occasionally record myself mixing and post videos on my Instagram and YouTube channel. Music shows your personality and I enjoy showing some of mine with anyone who cares to watch.

I couldn’t tell what sets me apart from others. I am very confident with myself. Art is subjective, and I just hope people can resonate with my work, and even if they don’t, it’s okay.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
A dream of mine is to open a coffee shop that is filled with my own furniture pieces for anyone to come sit, feel, and enjoy them while enjoying a good cup of coffee. A ritual so to speak. That may be in the works..

Aside from that, I still very much enjoy and love clothing. I consider myself a Rick Owens archivist at this point lol.
