Rising Stars: Meet Savannah DeLeon of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah DeLeon.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My initial spark for photography formed once I joined the middle school yearbook club in 8th grade. From that point on, I pursued photography in high school through other photography electives and yearbook all 4 years where I was made Clubs Editor my junior year, and Editor in Chief my senior year. Senior year was when I decided to take photography seriously and started booking payed gigs from senior sessions.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While I’ve always felt certain of my passion for photography, It wasn’t always an easy road. I was lost in the business and professional aspect of it all, and was learning as I went. I learned some really important lessons the hard way, however I feel it was all necessary to get where I am today. Finding MY editing style was probably the hardest obstacle to overcome. I started off editing based on what I felt was “right” or what was working for others even though it didn’t feel authentic to me. Once I realized that authenticity is the key to a photography business, I started to flourish from there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a 19 year old photographer based in the Dallas Fort-Worth area. I specialize in couples, weddings, and creative portraits. I strive for a more cinematic and film editing style. Despite my youth, I have turned a small and fun hobby into a professional and full-time career in just under a year. I am mostly proud of myself for never doubting what I can make out of this industry and turning my dreams into a reality so quickly.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Spending time with my family, friends, and fur babies, make me feel the happiest, as well as expressing myself with creativity.
