Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Dandreon Christian Gray.
Hi Dr. Dandreon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a native of Memphis, Tennessee, and in 1986, my life shifted when my family moved to Arlington, Texas. As the oldest of three girls, responsibility found me early. I became the pillar of my family long before I understood what that meant, navigating childhood while holding together dynamics that were often fragile. During my high school years, I survived all five forms of abuse and grew up as the daughter of a father battling addiction and a mother who, though present, was unable to protect in the ways I needed. My relationship with my sister often felt more maternal than sibling. Even then, I was admired by some and misunderstood by many — carrying strength born of necessity, not choice.
My path led me to college at an HBCU, where I experienced both growth and love. I married, became a mother to three children, and later divorced after eleven years. That chapter could have defined me, but instead, it refined me. When I returned to the Dallas–Fort Worth area, I rebuilt my life with intention — earning a degree in Healthcare Administration, obtaining my Real Estate license, acquiring professional certifications, founding a nonprofit organization, and stepping fully into entrepreneurship. While these accomplishments are meaningful, they are not what define me. They are evidence of obedience, perseverance, and preparation.
For more than 15 years, I have had the honor of leading a nonprofit dedicated to providing developmental tools to teenage girls, equipping them to grow into morally excellent, confident women. It was through this work that I realized my purpose had little to do with degrees or titles and everything to do with impact. I learned that many are called, but few are chosen — and fewer are willing to walk fully in their assignment. Over time, I began to see that God had been shaping me all along, preparing me to lead with transparency and vulnerability, not perfection.
Today, I stand as an educated Black woman, a business owner, a community advocate, a mentor, a storyteller, and a woman of faith whose journey is still unfolding. I have accomplished much in the eyes of others, yet my greatest work continues inward. I often reflect on a question that defines my life: You may know whose you are, but do you truly know who you are? My calling is not to compete, compare, or perform, but to remain humble and faithful to what God has deposited in me. My responsibility is simple — to give Him a return on His investment. And as my story continues to be written, I remain committed to living boldly, authentically, and on purpose.
I
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, there were obstacles and struggles along the way. I have stated many in the previous description of my journey. However, the followng is a few outlined:
Abuse: sexual, mental, physical, emotional, financial, and verbal
Father on drugs
Single parent household
Homeless
1st generational college graduate
divorced
depressed
bullied
shamed
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am known for building programs that meet people where they are — without judgment — and then equip them to rise. Over the years, I’ve successfully organized and led initiatives such as Teen Dating and Domestic Violence Awareness events, 5K scholarship fundraisers, Life Skills retreats, and social-impact fundraising experiences that combine education, healing, and empowerment. My leadership style centers on empowering teams, cultivating meaningful partnerships, and ensuring that every dollar, every resource, and every relationship is aligned with purpose and impact.
What truly sets me apart is that I do not lead from theory — I lead from lived truth. My work is informed by real life, resilience, and restoration. I bring together professional expertise, cultural competence, faith-based grounding, and personal experience to create programming that is authentic, culturally responsive, and deeply human. I don’t believe in “fixing” people — I believe in reminding them of who they already are. That philosophy carries into my business leadership as the CEO of a company focused on Business and Leadership Development, where we provide coaching, consulting, social services guidance, event planning, and facilitate a 10-module life skills curriculum designed to develop confidence, self-worth, accountability, and leadership from the inside out.
What matters most to you?
My work stands apart because it is rooted in authenticity, sustained by integrity, and driven by the belief that when people are given the right tools, truth, and support, they don’t just survive — they lead. I wish and hope that every person with a desire to change or dream is given an opportunity and support to do so. What matters most to me is that when I stop in this line of work or leave this earth, my kids and those who knew or have heard of me remember me as a God-fearing woman who treated people as people and made them smile.
