Inspiring Conversations with Kimberly of First Things First

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly.

Hi Kimberly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In May 2025, I stepped away from my role as CEO of a training company to start my own business, called First Things First. My thought was that there are so many moms and couples out there who are trying to find the right balance between working from home and trying to raise a family. We all know that raising children and maintaining a home is a full time job in itself, but most families require two incomes or at least some combination of maintaining work, family, and chores and it’s not easy, especially when you’re a new parent or newly working from home!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This summer, I spent some time interviewing moms in my church community. It became clear that most couples find it very challenging to balance household chores like dishes and laundry with their other responsibilites – childrearing, work, etc. Most everyone I talked to said they could use help, but most were also living on a very tight budget and did not think they could afford my services.

As you know, we’re big fans of First Things First. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The mission of First Things First is to help families build a healthy home life by putting the first things first! We specialize in providing accountability and coaching to help couples set goals for their families that prioritize what matters most, such as spending quality time together, establishing routines that ensure schedules are met, meals are prepared, and household chores are completed each week without unnecessary stress and overwhelm (especially for those with littles or multiple children). We are still in the early stages of testing the market and gaining credibility; therefore, the majority of our work can currently be found in content shared on Instagram: one_good_system

We have a FREE template available for families who want to try building routines, especially scheduling what can feel like an overwhelming amount of unstructured time with babies and toddlers at home!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
In our research so far, the number one most compelling finding is that nearly ALL moms are suffering from an exhorbitant amount of “mom guilt” and “comparison” which steals our joy and makes us feel inadequate as mothers. Our underlying mission with all of our consulting is to help moms find what works for them, while also coaching them in an understanding that they are enough. Our strategies and accountability help good parents and spouses simply apply the best versions of themselves through intentionality and routines.

Our mission and focus for content we create and share on IG at this time is just to provide practical advice and encouragement to moms who need to hear that they are doing a good job and managing their home does not have to feel overwhelming every day.
