Today we’d like to introduce you to Louisa Harvey.
Hi Louisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2003, my three children and I made a significant move to Arlington, Texas. This transition marked the beginning of a new chapter in our lives and helped shape the path that led me to where I am today.
I started Pure Hearts from a deeply personal place. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, my own healing journey inspired me to help others who are going through similar struggles. The move to Texas played a significant role in providing new opportunities and a fresh environment for this mission.
Today, Pure Hearts continues to grow as I collaborate with other organizations, and I remain committed to preventing abuse and supporting survivors.
I started Pure Hearts from a deeply personal place. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and as I began my own healing journey, I realized how many children and adults suffer in silence simply because they don’t have access to information, resources, or support. Creating Pure Hearts became both my purpose and a form of healing for me — seeing others find help, hope, and restoration is incredibly therapeutic and motivating.
Pure Hearts was founded to bring awareness to sexual abuse against children, educate communities on warning signs, and connect victims and families with counseling and support resources. A major milestone in this journey was hosting a successful awareness conference a few years ago that brought together survivors, performers, speakers, and organizations with similar missions. Through music, testimony, education, and shared resources, we created a safe space for healing and learning.
Today, I continue to grow Pure Hearts by collaborating with other organizations, advocates, and community leaders who share the same mission. I am currently preparing for another awareness conference on April 11, with the goal of reaching even more people, preventing abuse before it happens, and ensuring survivors know they are not alone. Every step of this journey has been driven by a passion to protect children and help break cycles of trauma. Today, Pure Hearts stands as a beacon of hope, and I remain committed to expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and ensuring that every child and survivor has the support they need.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey of building Pure Hearts has been both rewarding and challenging. One of the major hurdles has been securing funding. As I’m still in the process of finalizing the 501c3 documentation, it’s been tough to access certain grants and donations. Coupled with being unemployed, this has made it challenging to fund all the initiatives I envision.
Additionally, there are moments of self-doubt. At times, I question my ability to make a meaningful impact and wonder if I’m enough to drive this mission forward. But through prayer and faith, I find renewed strength and reassurance that this work is my calling.
Another significant challenge has been the lack of support. As the founder, it’s often been a solo effort, especially during events like conferences. Managing everything alone has been exhausting, and I’ve learned the importance of building a team. Moving forward, I’m actively reaching out to others for support and collaboration, hoping that together we can make a greater impact.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have a background in customer service, where I dedicated much of my career to helping and connecting with people. Although I’m currently unable to work full-time due to disability, I’m focused on healing and personal growth.
In addition to my nonprofit work, I’m known for my singing, which has been a passion since childhood. More recently, I’ve discovered a gift for songwriting, creating uplifting Christian R&B music that brings hope and encouragement. My songs are a therapeutic outlet for me and are meant to lift others out of darkness, reflecting my faith and the belief that Jesus is the source of light and healing. In addition to my work with Pure Hearts and my music, I’m also a dedicated dog breeder, specializing in poodles. Breeding poodles has been a passion of mine, and it’s something that brings me immense joy and fulfillment.
What truly sets me apart is my deep love for people and my commitment to building God’s kingdom. Everything I do is for the benefit of others and to serve God. My resources, from my car to my home, are seen as tools for service and support, always guided by faith and a desire to give back.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What brings me happiness is a blend of meaningful connections and purposeful activities. Spending time with my children and grandchildren brings immense joy, as does creating music that uplifts and inspires. My faith and the therapeutic nature of songwriting are also central to my happiness.
Additionally, attending church services and activities at Victory Outreach Grand Prarie, and VO Denton tx spending time with my church family is a source of great joy. I cherish the fellowship, the love, and the support we share. There’s a special warmth in being with my church community, and it’s something I look forward to deeply.
Ultimately, the combination of nurturing family bonds, serving others, expressing my faith, and enjoying the company of my church family brings me true happiness.
