Life & Work with Whitney Morris of Dallas – Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Morris.

Hi Whitney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In a nutshell, I am an almost legally blind housewife who loves to dance! In 2011, I was diagnosed with an eye condition called Optic Atrophy due to optic nerve damage caused by a parasite that has caused me to lose a lot of vision and color vision over the last 14+ years. Well, I had to do a complete 180 with my life and figure out a new passion. I have been trained in dance since the age of 3 and it has always been a constant in my life. I have always found dancing to be a form of therapy and wanted to create a space for others to find an escape while dancing so I created my FitWhit Dance Fitness YouTube Channel. Since this creation, I have also found a home in community theatre and have become a Resident Choreographer for a local theatre plus I have started choreographing for weddings (First Dance, Father/Daughter, and Group Dances)! Overall, my passion has turned into Whitney Morris Dance and I am very grateful despite the hardships that I have gone through!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the struggles include: not being confident in my ability to start these new adventures, money is always an issue in starting a business, putting yourself out there on social media always leads to the negative comments and people trying to tear you down, and of course the mental health struggles in dealing with a disability.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a choreographer for musicals, dance fitness, and weddings! I am so proud of the wonderful musicals/plays I have been able to help create (I have been nominated for several local awards too) and the many dance fitness/wedding dances on my YouTube Channel that have been so fun to create! What sets me apart from others – I try to create a positive and uplifting atmosphere with anyone I work with and really build their confidence while dancing!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Life is tough for all of us but there is beauty in taking those struggles and creating art!
