Exploring Life & Business with Tommy Brooks III of Ruisseaux Apparel Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Brooks III.

Hi Tommy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for fashion, but my history in the fashion industry began in 2013. Shortly after my first son was born, I attended Wade College in Dallas, TX to pursue my degree in Merchandising and Design. Balancing working nights and attending classes during the day became my new norm and I was determined to succeed.

After a few internships with local designers such as Abi Ferrin, I accepted a position at Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind assisting one of Wade College’s professors (Mr. Bell) in instructing the blind and vision impaired how to sew. During that time a Dallas based luxury designer, Tish Cox, had her brand manufactured there and in addition to teaching the blind/impaired how to sew, I became a lead managing 9 sewing machine operators. The manufacturing experience at Dallas Lighthouse provided me access to understanding how garment production is on a mass level and what it takes to do development and research.

In 2018 I began my tenure at Bioworld Merchandising, beginning in the mailroom to working in the Licensing Department, which gave me the opportunity to manage licenses such as Demon Slayer, Naruto, and Harry Potter with companies like Viz Media and Warner Brothers/Discovery. My day consisted of confirming our contracted rights while communicating with Research and Development leads, Designers and Sales to ensure that product was made in a timely manner and according to the rights provided.

During my time at Bioworld, I began to hone in on my own brand that I began in 2016 but had put on hold. Ruisseaux, pronounced Roo – sew, is a luxury ready to wear brand. Our focus at Ruisseaux is creating looks that you can dress up or down, literally taking you from business to night life with just one look. We also offer custom looks for that special occasion.

I worked on the business on the side while continuing my tenure at Bioworld until the shift in the economy caused my tenure to end in March of 2025.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. Learning the value of what I bring to the table was a struggle for me. Early on, I would find myself chasing every opportunity to gain clients. In turn, I would lose my design esthetic and money trying to cater to everyone rather than honing in on the brand.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Ruisseaux (pronounced roo-sew), we believe luxury should be effortless. Born from a desire to bridge timeless elegance with everyday ease, our ready-to-wear collections are thoughtfully designed to elevate your wardrobe—whether you’re heading to a boardroom, a brunch, or a black-tie event. Every piece is crafted with precision, using high-quality fabrics and refined silhouettes that celebrate both form and function.

We specialize: in modern staples that can be dressed up or down, seamlessly transitioning from day to night, casual to formal, without ever compromising on style or comfort.

What I am most proud of Brand wise: are two looks, the Ultra Wide Leg Pant Suit and the High low gown.

What I want the readers to know: Our mission is simple, to empower you to look and feel your best—wherever life takes you.
