Serena, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey has been shaped by profound personal and professional adversity. I spent my earliest years navigating the instability of witness protection and foster care, experiences that later gave way to teenage addiction and homelessness. Those seasons tested me deeply and ultimately revealed a resilience I hadn’t yet learned to claim.
Through determination and grit, I rebuilt my life and rose through the corporate ranks, holding leadership roles for nearly two decades. In 2013, I made the decisive leap into entrepreneurship and founded Pulse Marketing, embracing both the responsibility and uncertainty that come with building something from the ground up.
In 2023, I published my memoir, Exposed: You Can’t Heal When You Hide, sharing my story to help others find their own path to healing. In 2024, I became a contributing author to the anthology Own Your Story and most recently contributed to The Empowered Grief Journey, continuing my commitment to storytelling as a catalyst for growth, healing, and empowerment.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At the height of my entrepreneurial career, my personal life was marked by profound hardship. I was navigating the complexities of a deeply difficult marriage when, in 2020, I lost my husband to suicide. He was closely involved in the business, and his passing sent shockwaves far beyond our family, affecting our clients, our employees, and every corner of the organization.
The grief was immeasurable. Yet, through the unwavering support of my team, I was carried during a season when I could not stand on my own. Their strength gave me the space to heal slowly, and through that process, I discovered a deeper sense of purpose, one rooted in resilience, compassion, and meaning beyond success alone.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My most cherished childhood memory is being reunited with my mom. She was determined to earn back her rights as a parent and moved mountains to make it happen. Her perseverance and courage left an indelible mark on me.
She is also the reason I started Pulse Marketing. Throughout my journey, she has gently pushed me toward the unknown, encouraging me to take brave steps forward, while remaining an unwavering source of support every step of the way.
