Today we’d like to introduce you to Berty Morales.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Berty. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
12 years ago, I weighed 284 pounds. But thanks to Lap-Band surgery, my life changed — and I lost a total of 150 pounds!
At the same time, I was losing weight, I noticed that my fashion sense and style were changing, too. I wasn’t down to my ideal weight yet, so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on clothes. You have no idea about the struggle of shopping when you’re losing weight — I could buy a dress one day, and two weeks later it went into the donation pile because it had gotten too big on me.
During my weight loss journey, I used to shop at a local boutique in Dallas… until I came across of a shoe club. I became a VIP Member in 2011 and I’ve been addicted ever since! In December 2013, I wore an outfit that changed the game. Before the year was over, this particular shoe club invited me to become a Brand Ambassador — total win-win!
Once the shoes, clothes, handbags and other accessories started to come in, I decided to start my own personal fashion diary to help inspire other women struggling with a new body just like me. When I started the blog back in 2012, I knew that if I could inspire at least one woman, I’d be very happy. Little did I know, that several women would identify with me since then!
Helping these women by answering their questions when it comes to fashion brings joy to my life. When they tell me that they wish they were more secure and had my confidence, I automatically correct them. I let them know that my confidence will always be up to the roof but my insecurities will never go away. I still have some parts of my body that I will never be happy with, but I will never let my insecurities control my life. Love yourself, and stop taking your body for granted.
Has it been a smooth road?
Once I launch the blog, it was a little hard at the beginning because I was already in my mid 30’s. It was hard to get noticed here in Dallas and let’s not forget I am not your typical woman either. The one thing I didn’t do is let insecurity get in the way. I won’t deny that there were times that I want it to give up and quite, but I am so happy that I didn’t do it. I kept posting my daily looks every day and by 2014 a lot of doors have opened for me, and every other day I get invited to do small collaborations with great companies.
The best advice I can give to anyone is, know what you want, and once you do fight for it. Don’t let your insecurities get in the way and if your dreams don’t scare you, that is because maybe those dreams aren’t big enough. Believe in yourself and in what you have to offer and never give up.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Mad For Fashion For Less – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
From 8-5, Monday through Friday I work as an Admin for a very important construction, mechanical/maintenance company. Not to brag, but for the past 20 years, we have been in Fortunes top 100 as one of the best companies to work for. Then at night, I work on my blog, Mad For Fashion For Less.
Mad For Fashion For Less specializes in creating daily and affordable looks with the hopes of inspiring the everyday women. I get a lot of compliments from readers in how I play with colors and prints. Also, I have a massive shoe collection, I think I do own 200 plus pairs of shoes and still counting. My style is very versatile! I normally try not to follow too many trends, but when I do, I always make sure that my outfits are a little different and on point!
There are two things that I am very proud of, number one being part of Kohl’s 2016 Style for Every Body campaign and being voted ShoeDazzle 2016 Brand Ambassador of the year.
The fact that I’m not your twenty-something year blogger, I’m a #Fashionista in my 30+ years, with a passion for fashion from a very young age – that also considers “herself” the “Latina Carrie Bradshaw.” LOL!
