Today we’d like to introduce you to Patti Rooks.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been sewing for over 40 years. It has been mainly a side hobby when I had a little time. My husband and I were foster parents for over 14 years and in that time we adopted 19 children from the foster care system. With one bio daughter that gave us 20 kids and little time for hobbies. After my children started growing up and moving out. I went back to school at 50 and got my degree to start working in child welfare. I would do sewing in my little spare time. In 2025 while working as a case manager in Dallas I started doing sewing and alterations in my spare time and then started up cycling clothing and textiles and selling on line. This started as a side gig and in May I took early retirement and was keeping my side gig. By the grace of God my side gig turned into more of a full time gig with many repeat and loyal customers.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Adopting from foster care is never easy with all the past trauma involved. We also adopted several special needs children and caring for others while running a business is a balancing act. I have lots of support and have been able to maintain and meet deadlines, accommodate rush jobs and muddle through.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am most proud of taking discarded clothing headed to the land fills and refashion them into beautiful hand made wearable art
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Put God first in everything I do and my work will be blessed
