Life & Work with Keidra Williams of LITTLE ELM/Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keidra Williams.

Hi Keidra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
KWJ Financial Services was built from lived experience, not just numbers.

My journey into taxes started very personally. Years ago, I referred my family to a tax preparer I trusted. Unfortunately, my mother and sisters were filed incorrectly, and after an audit, it ended up costing them thousands of dollars. Watching that happen was a turning point for me. It showed me how one mistake often made by someone who means well can have long-term financial consequences for families who are simply trying to do the right thing.

That experience pushed me to start learning tax law, compliance, and filing standards for myself. I didn’t want to rely on “word of mouth” or blind trust anymore I wanted to understand the system. At the same time, I was dealing with my own financial challenges, including bad credit. Through education, discipline, and consistency, I was able to rebuild and significantly boost my credit score. That process taught me that most people aren’t bad with money they’re underinformed and underserved.

I began by helping individuals with tax preparation and basic financial guidance, and quickly realized the need was much bigger. Clients weren’t just asking for help filing taxes; they needed structure, education, and someone who could explain things clearly without judgment. That’s when KWJ Financial Services evolved into a full-service firm focused on tax preparation, credit education, business formation, compliance support, and long-term financial strategy.

What sets KWJ apart is that we don’t just “do the work” for clients; we teach them how to protect themselves. We prioritize accuracy, compliance, and transparency because I’ve seen firsthand what happens when those things are missing. Every service we offer is designed to help clients avoid costly mistakes and build a solid financial foundation.

Today, KWJ Financial Services serves individuals and business owners across the DFW Metroplex and beyond. We’re proud to be a trusted resource for people who want clarity instead of confusion, strategy instead of guesswork, and a partner who understands both the numbers and the real life behind them. This work is personal to me, and the mission remains simple: help people move from financial survival to financial stability and ultimately, financial sovereignty.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road.

Building KWJ Financial Services while being a single parent with no outside support has been one of the biggest challenges. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve had to juggle business responsibilities, parenting, and personal life all at once often without a safety net. There were times when resources were limited, energy was stretched thin, and quitting would have been the easier option.

I’ve also had to navigate anxiety, depression, and the effects of past trauma while still showing up for my clients and my family. That’s not something people always see behind the scenes of entrepreneurship. Running a business doesn’t pause for life challenges, and learning how to manage my mental health while building something sustainable has been a real journey.

Another challenge has been educating clients in an industry where misinformation is common. Taxes and credit are often misunderstood, and correcting damage whether from prior filings, poor advice, or lack of documentation, takes patience and persistence. Doing things the right way, even when shortcuts are tempting, requires discipline and integrity.

Despite the obstacles, I’ve learned how to turn pressure into purpose. Every challenge has sharpened my approach, strengthened my empathy for clients, and reinforced why this work matters. I’ve made a conscious decision to take what I’ve been given and make the best lemonade possible building something stable, ethical, and impactful, even when the road is hard.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Professionally, I work in accounting, where I handle numbers, financial records, and reporting on a daily basis. My role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and consistency there’s no room for guesswork when you’re responsible for financial data. Working in this environment sharpened my analytical skills and reinforced the importance of structure, documentation, and compliance.

Outside of my day-to-day accounting work, I apply those same principles through KWJ Financial Services. What I do there is a natural extension of my professional background. I help individuals and business owners understand their finances, prepare accurate tax filings, and make informed decisions based on real numbers not assumptions.

What I’m most proud of is my ability to translate complex financial information into something people can actually understand and use. Numbers don’t intimidate me, and I’m known for being calm, precise, and straightforward even in high-pressure situations. That skill has helped clients correct past mistakes, regain confidence in their finances, and move forward with clarity.

What sets me apart is that I bridge both worlds: corporate-level accounting discipline and real-life financial problem-solving. I understand the technical side of finance, but I also understand the human side how money decisions affect families, stress levels, and long-term stability. That balance allows me to approach my work with both professionalism and empathy, and it’s the foundation of everything I do.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
