Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Lofland.
Hi Chris, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At a younger age, I was a gymnastics coach for many years. As a coach, I have always had a passion for fitness and working with clients. My direction in my personal fitness led me into Olympic Weightlifting, which I still train and compete in to this day, and in my coaching career, I moved more into personal training, group fitness classes, and coaching athletes in the sport of Weightlifting (Snatch and Clean & Jerk).
I opened up my gym, BlueWave Fitness / BlueWave Weightlifting Club in 2015, where we offer Personal Training, Small Group Classes, Weightlifting (Youth, Junior, Senior, and Masters), and Open Gym Training.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Major struggles in the beginning were with locations. It was difficult to find a location that could accommodate the size of the facility we needed and allow us to practice our sport of Weightlifting. We moved 4 times in the first 5 years, but have now settled into the perfect location off of Camp Bowie and Altamere, where we have 2 rooms, 1 for our weightlifting teams to train and 1 for our personal training and fitness members.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are split into 2 main facets at BlueWave:
1) BlueWave Fitness – This is a room dedicated to cardio equipment, free weights, strength machines, and more. Within the room, we offer a limited number of Open Gym Memberships, Personal Training, Small Group Classes, and more.
2) BlueWave Weightlifting Club – This is a room dedicated to those training with the barbell. We offer high-level coaching to those wanting to learn how to Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and all of the accessory barbell exercises (squats, deadlifts, presses, etc.). We train youth how to lift properly, to Team USA World Team Members, to Masters athletes looking to stay strong and mobile in their later ages.
What are your plans for the future?
We are adding programs and equipment to our facility each year to make sure all of our clients have access to any programs they may need. We are currently making big changes to the Fitness Room, including more equipment and new programs. The new programs will include more spots for Personal Training, Senior Citizens Training, and Sports Specific Training.
As always, we continue to grow our Weightlifting Teams. We would love to show off the benefits of weightlifting to all ages and sports by getting more involved in learning the Snatch and Clean & Jerk, plus other barbell movements.
