Community Highlights: Meet Chelsea Williams of Chelsea’s Corner Counseling and Consulting Services, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Williams.

Hi Chelsea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into this work began with a desire to be the person I needed when I was growing up. The little girl who was once deemed “spoiled rotten” was really a child longing to be seen, heard, and felt. Those unmet needs shaped my sensitivity to emotional safety, connection, and the quiet ways people learn to survive when they don’t feel fully understood.

That lived experience, paired with my education and clinical training, led me into the field of mental health. Over the years, working in high-acuity and trauma-informed settings deepened my understanding of how unprocessed experiences live in both the mind and body, especially for those who have learned to be strong, capable, and self-sufficient at the expense of their own emotional needs.

Today, as a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of Chelsea’s Corner Counseling and Consulting Services, PLLC, I create spaces where clients can move out of survival mode and into healing, self-trust, and emotional clarity. I hold a deep commitment to advocacy for Black women and Black men, whose emotional experiences are often minimized, misunderstood, or shaped by cultural expectations around strength, resilience, and survival. In this space, vulnerability is welcomed, rest is allowed, and healing does not require overexplaining.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many people in helping professions, I had to unlearn the belief that being strong meant doing everything alone. There were seasons of self-doubt, emotional burnout, and navigating spaces where I felt unseen or misunderstood, both personally and professionally. Balancing the weight of others’ stories while still tending to my own healing was a learning curve, especially early in my career.

I also faced the challenge of trusting myself; my voice, my intuition, and my clinical instincts while building a practice that aligned with my values rather than external expectations. Each struggle forced me to slow down, set boundaries, and redefine success in a way that honored sustainability and authenticity. Those experiences now allow me to show up more present, grounded, and intentional in the work I do today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Chelsea’s Corner Counseling and Consulting Services, PLLC?
Chelsea’s Corner Counseling and Consulting Services, PLLC is a trauma-informed therapy practice rooted in creating emotionally safe, culturally responsive spaces for healing.

I support individuals navigating trauma, high-achievement burnout, major life transitions, and relationship issues—including dating challenges, attachment wounds, and relational trauma that show up as overgiving, emotional withdrawal, or difficulty feeling safe in connection. My work, especially through EMDR, centers on helping clients reconnect with safety in their bodies, strengthen emotional awareness, and build healthier relationships with themselves and others. This practice is the result of lived experience, clinical training, and a commitment to creating a therapeutic space where healing feels grounded, culturally responsive, and deeply human. This is my way of mmm helping my clients pause, feel and heal.

What sets my practice apart is the way I blend evidence-based care with cultural responsiveness, warmth, and real-life applicability. As a millennial, African American therapist, I’m intentional about acknowledging the social, cultural, and systemic factors that shape mental health while still empowering clients to reclaim their agency and voice. My brand is rooted in the belief that healing doesn’t have to feel cold or intimidating—it can feel safe, affirming, and collaborative.

I’m deeply proud of creating a space where Black women and Black men feel safe enough to take the courageous step of reaching out for therapy, while also welcoming clients from all backgrounds. As an African American therapist, I understand how cultural expectations, stigma, and messages around strength and self-reliance can deter many people from seeking support. Being able to bridge that gap and normalize therapy as a resource rather than a last resort is something I hold with great care.

At its core, Chelsea’s Corner Counseling is a practice built on integrity and alignment. From the language I use to the services I offer, everything is intentionally designed to meet clients where they are while gently guiding them toward where they want to be. This is more than a therapy practice—it’s a space where survival softens, self-trust is rebuilt, and people are reminded that they deserve to feel seen, supported, and whole. This is my way of allowing my clients to pause, feel and heal.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people know me as a therapist who holds space for others, but what they might not know is that I’m a bit of a nerd at heart. I love fashion, I love self-discovery, and I have a few passions that keep me grounded and inspired. I love crocheting, I’m obsessed with true crime, and I’m just getting into anime. I’m also actively deepening my faith, which continues to shape how I move through both my personal life and my work.

I’ve channeled my love for reflection and creativity into designing a journal called Safe Here: A Journal for Women Who Love Hard. The journal is designed to help women process emotions, set boundaries, and cultivate self-trust, and it will be launching very soon. These interests and creative projects remind me to stay curious, connected, and rooted in the things that bring joy, meaning, and personal growth beyond my work as a therapist.
