Today we’d like to introduce you to Irwin Kaufman.
Hi Irwin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The idea was started by the Temple Shalom Brotherhood to support our congregation’s youth programs. It expanded over the years to reach a broader community and support other non-profit organizations. This year was our most successful year as partnering with the Vogel Alcove energized a new group within our community that we had not been able to support in the past.
For 24 years, Temple Shalom has hosted a golf tournament and each year chosen a philanthropy that best represents a cause we are passionate to support. Temple Shalom has raised over $500,000 for charities since the golf tournament was first organized in 2001.
The theme for the Temple Shalom Golf Tournament is Fore the Kids, an event that has always had something for everyone! The golf tournament was played at Coyote Ridge Golf Club. The event includes a great day of golf, lunch, and a silent auction. Dinner is served to top off our day.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our biggest struggle has been in finding a philanthropic partner that truly participates and aligns with our mission of supporting youth needs.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a religious organization, we pride ourselves on not only supporting our congregation, but being a good community partner as well.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
As noted, before, our biggest challenge is finding a partner who is active in our tournament and provides greater visibility to our mission to support youth programs (whether part of our congregation or otherwise).
