Today we’d like to introduce you to Juan.
Hi Juan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Cancun Mexican Restaurant was founded on May 5, 2000, by Juan and Maria Piña with a dream of sharing home-style Mexican food with the Fort Worth community. What started as a small, family-run restaurant quickly became a neighborhood gathering place through years of hard work, long hours, and genuine hospitality.
For over two decades, the Piña family remained hands-on — cooking, greeting regulars, and continuously improving the restaurant. In 2025, Cancun proudly celebrates 25 years in business, marking the milestone with recent renovations and a renewed focus on modernizing the guest experience through online ordering and digital engagement.
Through every chapter, Cancun’s mission has stayed the same: serve fresh, authentic food and make every guest feel like family.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t always been easy, especially as a family business. Balancing the demands of running a restaurant while raising five children required countless long days, sacrifices, and time away from home. One of the biggest challenges came during COVID, when uncertainty forced us to adapt quickly just to survive. We’re incredibly grateful and blessed to have made it through that period, and those challenges only strengthened our appreciation for family, community, and perseverance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve spent my entire career in the food and service industry, a path shaped by my roots as an immigrant from Mexico and a deep appreciation for hospitality. What we specialize in at Cancun goes beyond the food, it’s about creating a place where people feel welcomed, cared for, and at home. We’re known for our friendly service, consistency, and the relationships we’ve built with our guests over the years.
What I’m most proud of is being able to build a business that reflects those values while supporting my family and team. What sets us apart is the personal connection, we greet our guests like family, remember our regulars, and take pride in serving our community with kindness and heart every single day.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
