Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Genders.
Hi Lea, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a personal trainer, board-certified health coach, and workplace wellness consultant. My story began over twenty years ago when I was working a high-stress corporate job. I had developed some poor habits, gained weight, and did not feel like myself. I started running with the initial goal of changing my body, but the process ended up changing my whole life.
I decided to get certified as a run coach at first to share my newfound love of fitness. That education sparked a deeper desire to help others, and I went on to become a personal trainer and eventually a board-certified health coach. I spent the next decade building a side business training and coaching clients alongside my full-time career. Today, I have merged my corporate background with my passion for fitness and behavior change to help employers improve team health, engagement, and productivity. After twenty-five years in the corporate world and ten years as a coach, I left my job to go all-in on my wellness business.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing worth doing is ever easy. My personal fitness journey took a lot of ups and downs before I really found my footing. For a long time, the biggest struggle was trying to do it all. Balancing a corporate career while building a business on the side, and finding the time for my own fitness was exhausting, and I flirted with burnout more than once. I had to unlearn the idea that health had to look perfect to count. I made plenty of mistakes trying to balance it all, which is a big reason I set out to help others. I want to help people avoid those same mistakes that I did.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I help companies create healthier, more productive teams through workplace wellness programs and coaching. My philosophy is simple. When employees are healthy, they think more clearly, are more engaged, and make better decisions. Addressing preventable health conditions early can also save the company money in insurance costs. While many workplace wellness programs are built on good intentions, they often lack the evidence-based approach needed for lasting change.
I specialize in implementing science-based behavior change principles. My background in corporate marketing allows me to understand the pressures of demanding work environments. I use that experience to design effective wellness programs that fit into a busy workday rather than adding more stress or pressure to the employee’s plate.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I believe fitness should make your life better, not more complicated or stressful. Whether you want to feel good in your skin, move with confidence as you age, show up strong at work, or simply keep up with life’s demands, my goal is to make wellness meaningful and personal for you.
