Daniel Whitton Sr. of Near Country Alliance Corridor on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Daniel Whitton Sr. and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Choosing between intelligence, energy or integrity seems a little like Sophie’s choice, having to give up two to claim one. All three are immensely important to a business man. I feel I have intelligence and proven by the abilities shown in both my main professions, Finish Carpenter and Intellectual Property holder. Energy is needed, if not mandated to perform at a level equal to or exceeding the competitors, and I feel this drive to compete requires that energy in me to be used or else fail. Integrity would be the hardest to put a label on, but the innate goodness in me is derived from my parenting and life experiences and will remain as the leading reason how I operate my businesses and continue to exist as a Man, Husband, and Father of Honor.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Daniel Whitton’s memoirs would be titled “One Board at a Time”. This slogan refers to building houses, for which I have had the enduring love and abilities to train, own a small business DFW Carpentry, and work as a Professional Finish Residential Carpenter for my entire adult life. Prior to 21 years of age, education was my tool to get through life. Intelligence got me into college, until testing to be a Systems Analyst seemed to put me on a path to life behind a desk. Financing constraints left me the hard choice to leave SFASU and regroup, which occurred the following Spring by interviewing for and landing a position as a crew member for a local residential framing contractor. With geometry and algebra being my best subjects, I embraced the knowledge I began to receive, and the profession seemed to fit me like a glove. Practical application of geometry and reasonable engineering turned and tuned my instincts into a career. I also found in myself the ability to write and satisfy contractual obligations. Armed with confidence, I believed I could perform in the field of technical writing where at age 38 I found a need within the veterinary field for a product I created to solve the aural hematoma affliction without the need for surgery. I set forth to write the issued initial Patent application, a second issued Patent in 2020 along with writing the accepted Articles of Incorporation for my family business Auralsplint Inc. PBC, a Texas For-Profit Public Benefit Corporation. Come join Auralsplint.org as we assist in bettering pets all over the USA and abroad with our Class 1 Veterinary Medical products.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
I was very fortunate to be introduced to a fellow carpenter, a master at his profession, very early in my carpentry career. This man above all others saw in me abilities he could utilize to begin local finish carpentry contracting. With his guidance and tutelage, I rapidly excelled to being able to visualize the work before beginning a project such as staircases, mantles, cabinets, and the design criteria for an entire home. This skill has afforded me the ability to draw and draft, and enabled me since 1988 to run my own business DFW Carpentry, where this vision in creating is the cornerstone to our success.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I am not sure an easy life is worth living. Trials and tribulations are required for growth in every living thing. Anyone who tells you otherwise will someday regret saying this if they indeed want to find happiness after their life is over. Easy lives make soft men where as hard lives make tough men. I have never thought about giving up, but maybe giving in to the circumstances and hedging my beliefs to accommodate evil. Thankfully, those mornings where it was all I could do to wake up, sit on the edge of my bed, put my hands to the side of my face, and plan my day to include those necessary duties, and return to try again, all the while knowing that God was with me, that I was still a damaged man but in the path He set for me.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Protecting the innocence of children. Our current state of affairs in the United States of America is hard to digest. There are those elected, appointed, and empowered by outside hidden forces for which the lesser of minds cannot comprehend. Our Nation’s Founders have given the Citizens a Document, the US Constitution, where through elicit means is being thwarted and abused. The trafficking of children has become a business held captive from view by very powerful and destructive forces known to man. If I could change this, bring it into view, and remove the perpetrators forever from being able to recreate these atrocities, I would. I continue to teach openly these occurrences to those who will listen. I look forward to Goodness defeating Evil, and hope through reading and sharing these views our children will have a chance at freedom and success as I have.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
This question is perplexing. Peace as opposed to hatred? Peace as opposed to unpleasantness? Peace as opposed to blissful ignorance? Who defines peace without distinguishing it from the opposites? Me of course. This is who I am. The opportunity to educate lies in every situation. God is everywhere, if the eyes are open to see him and the offerings he makes along your travels through to the end of your life. I tried very hard to teach my children the difference between Right and Wrong, and the desire to choose Right from Wrong. I believe I succeeded to the extent that I am at my greatest Peace when receiving a hug from my daughter.
