Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Zachariah Rippey of Burleson

Zachariah Rippey shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Zachariah, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I’d hire me because I go ten toes down on everything I commit to. I love to help people turn their mission into a message. I value the relationship more than the transaction and I think that goes a long way in the field that I’m in.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Zach Rippey was pursuing a career in stand-up comedy when God led him to become a voice for Jesus instead. After going through the motions of Christianity for five years, Zach decided to read one of the Gospels during the chaos of 2020. The book of John changed everything and Zach was on fire for the Lord! After reading only a few books in the Bible, Zach felt led to start a podcast about Jesus called “I Like Birds” in May 2020.

The show quickly became a beacon of light in a dark time and has led many people to Christ, including three of his best friends and many others. The fruit from the show and confirmations from God led Zach to enroll in Bible college, quit his job, purchase an RV, and hit the road full-time with his wife and children. On the road, he spread the Gospel, sought the beauty of God’s creation, and experienced true freedom.

After the RV Journey, Zach moved back to Texas and now lives on beautiful land with his family. Zach released his debut book, “21 Days in Africa”,” and is growing his ministry weekly as he releases new episodes with incredible guests to worldwide audiences. He’s on a mission to “do it for the one!”

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to think I had to be good at one thing. I struggled to find my exact lane because i thought all the lanes looked drivable. This insecurity ended up being my superpower because I learned the value of talent stacking and leveraging the different things I’ve done over the years to maximize my value in the world.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
God has a huge plan for your life. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Your faith will get you further than any degree or accomplishment will.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Larry Ragland is a man of God who has been a pastor for 30 years. He walks in integrity, loves people deeply, and never misses an opportunity to remind you he’s proud of you. I love his joy, the fierce loyalty he has, and the mission he’s on. He sees greatness in those around him and elevates everyone else before himself. His character has inspired me.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as an encourager. One who believes in them and wants to see them WIN! Remember me as someone who pointed people to Christ while living a super cool life that glorifies him.
