Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jennifer Weiss of Fort Worth, Texas

We recently had the chance to connect with Jennifer Weiss and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Most of us have areas in our lives where we are really killing it and have “big smile” praise reports. We rarely experience victory in every area of our lives and we don’t always share that part. We prefer to be strong rather than be perceived as weak. I think we all have something that we wish were different or would change in our lives at any given time, whether it be a relationship, our financial status, or our health. So, to answer your question, I think we all need deep connection that can only be found in unconditional love and that love can create a safe place where we can be real and authentic about our triumphs and our challenges, our victories and our defeats, our confidence and our lonely and broken places. We all need to have at least one person who will see us, know all the ugly stuff, and love us anyway.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jennifer Weiss, and I am the host of the Grace Grit Glory show, a Screenwriter, and am the founder of Dove Publishing House. We are a small, boutique Christian publishing house. In my capacity, I have the honor and privilege of book coaching authors to help them write their books. If their book is accepted, we also walk with them through the publishing partnership to give wings to their words through marketing and opportunities to share their books.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was four years old, I was diagnosed with dyslexia and placed in a special program for children who had learning disabilities to get them ready for kindergarten. Through the years, I have adapted and retrained my brain to see numbers and letters properly. When I get to coach people in their writing and help them publish their first book, I am able to encourage them from a place of really knowing what it’s like to not believe that you are naturally gifted at this whole writing thing. And my dyslexia was simply a challenge to overcome that I’m very grateful for now. I happen to be very creative, even with that learning disability, so I now see that setback as a superpower and a way to encourage others to write from a personal place of knowing how hard it can be.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be, “You are going to make it, but eventually this all ends.” Ten out of ten of us are not going to live on this earth forever. Knowing how finite our time is and how fragile life is, it helps me not hang onto things so tightly. In my faith, I believe there is an eternity, and what I’m doing now is actually working toward Heaven. When I make decisions, I ask myself if, when my life on earth ends, is this something I can stand before God and be okay with. It really changes my perspective to have an eternal mindset.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends will tell you that truth and kindness are very important to me. When I was younger and, dare I say, a wayward young woman, I didn’t walk in integrity, and I was very hard-hearted. Now that I know the truth, it’s very important to me to live my life in the light and be a woman of my word. Friendships where we speak the truth, but always with kindness and love, are so special to me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace and at rest in nature. It’s my way of connecting with God and receiving strength and peace for my daily journey.
