Today we’d like to introduce you to Emani Fields.
Emani, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my hair business in Oklahoma City, where I had a small but loyal client base. Eventually I realized that if I wanted to grow, I needed to put myself in a bigger market, so I moved to Dallas with zero clients, zero guarantees, and a lot of faith in my work ethic and vision.
When I arrived, nobody knew my name. I had to rebuild everything from scratch: networking, posting content, doing free and discounted services, passing out cards, and showing up consistently even when bookings were slow. I worked multiple jobs while building my brand because I refused to give up on my dream of owning a real beauty business.
What kept me going was understanding that talent isn’t enough; consistency, professionalism, and customer experience matter just as much. I focused on delivering high-quality installs, healthy hair practices, and making every client feel seen and confident. Slowly, word of mouth started spreading, my books began filling, and my brand became something people could trust.
Today, I’m still growing, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I built this business without a safety net, without investors, and without handouts; just hustle, discipline, and belief in myself. Dallas didn’t give me anything; I earned every client one appointment at a time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all, it hasn’t been smooth. Moving to a new city with no clientele means you’re starting at the bottom again, even if you already know your craft. There were weeks where bookings were slow, bills were still due, and I had to juggle multiple jobs just to keep my business alive. That part doesn’t get talked about enough.
One of the hardest parts was staying confident when things were quiet. It’s easy to doubt yourself when you’re talented but not fully booked yet. I had to learn how to market myself, handle clients professionally, set boundaries, and run my business like a real brand, not just a side hustle.
There were also emotional struggles, feeling alone, feeling behind, and feeling like I had something to prove. But every slow week taught me how to be more strategic, more consistent, more sharpened, and more disciplined. The challenges forced me to grow not just as a stylist, but as a businesswoman.
Those struggles didn’t stop me, they sharpened me. That’s what allowed me to build something solid instead of something temporary.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a licensed hairstylist and beauty entrepreneur specializing in protective styles, luxury installs, and healthy hair care. My focus is on things like knotless braids, sew-ins, custom wigs, loc services, and natural hair treatments; but what I’m really known for is how I combine beauty with hair health.
I don’t just install styles; I make sure my clients’ real hair is taken care of underneath. Every service I offer starts with cleansing, conditioning, and proper prep, because I believe luxury starts with healthy hair. A lot of people chase looks, NunBut builds long-term results.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients have in me. Many of them come in feeling insecure about their hair, and they leave feeling confident, cared for, and educated about how to maintain it. That’s powerful to me.
What sets me apart is my professionalism and intentionality. I don’t overbook. I don’t rush. I don’t treat clients like numbers. I focus on the experience just as much as the style, from how you’re greeted, how your NunBut experience is throughout the duration of service, to how your hair feels weeks later.
I’m building more than a salon chair, I’m building a brand rooted in consistency, integrity, and confidence, and that’s what people remember about me.
