Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Harris.
Hi Lindsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out in pediatric psychiatry research and after getting my Master’s I joined Children’s Health. During my time there, I discovered a passion working with people struggling with eating disorders. Supporting patients as they rebuilt trust with their bodies and themselves gave me a strong sense of purpose, and it became clear that this was where my values, training, and heart aligned. That clarity deepened after the birth of my daughter. Becoming a parent shifted how I thought about balance, presence, and what a sustainable career really looks like. I wanted to be there for my family while continuing to do work that felt meaningful. In November 2024, I opened Bourne Counseling. Starting my own practice gave me the flexibility I was looking for, and just as importantly, allowed me to serve a community that is very meaningful to me. Today, my work is grounded in clinical experience, research-informed care, and a deep commitment to compassionate, human-centered support.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming a first-time mother came with a traumatic delivery. In the year that followed I found myself rethinking what I wanted for my life and career. Launching my own practice meant stepping into uncertainty while still healing physically and mentally. Fear and anxiety were very present, so I relied on the same tools I encourage my clients to use, allowing fear to exist while continuing to move forward. That experience continues to shape how I show up for my clients and my family. Another challenge has been finding my voice as a therapist in an online space. Maintaining professionalism while showing up publicly can feel vulnerable, but diet culture is louder than ever, and silence doesn’t feel neutral. I want to offer a thoughtful, clinical perspective for those struggling with body image or navigating recovery. And I strive to create space for conversations rooted in compassion rather than shame.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I combine evidence-based therapy with compassionate, individualized care to create a safe space where clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to live fully and authentically.
My focus is teens and adults navigating eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and perinatal challenges. A big part of my approach is helping people make peace with their bodies and recover in a culture obsessed with “smallness” and diet rules.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve struggled with anxiety for much of my life and have been in a place where I would avoid risks. Over time, I realized that avoiding risk often meant staying small, both physically and emotionally. Now, I focus on taking steps that align with my values, even when they feel uncomfortable. My clients’ courage continually inspires me and reinforces that growth often lives just beyond fear.
