Life & Work with Sulieman Alhazma of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sulieman Alhazma.

Hi Sulieman, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Our story is fundamentally a family narrative that began right here in Texas. Palestinian Elegance wasn’t just a business plan; it started from an idea by our mother. She inspired us to create a platform that would share the beauty and sophistication of Palestinian culture with the world. I serve as the CEO, but the heart of the operation is our shared commitment as a family to preserve our heritage.

We started with a vision to bridge the gap between traditional aesthetics and contemporary fashion, ensuring that Palestinian identity is kept alive “one stitch at a time.” From those early days, we have expanded significantly. We are proud to have grown from a small operation into a robust enterprise with three physical storefronts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area—our established locations in Richardson and Arlington, and our newest store which opened in Plano in February 2025. Today, we serve a global community not just through our stores, but also through our app and partnerships with major online retailers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the defining moments in my journey was overcoming the initial self-doubt. When we began, I frequently asked myself, “Would people appreciate our vision?” There was a real challenge in navigating cultural misconceptions and educating a broader market about the significance of items like the Kuffiyeh and Thobe while trying to make them relevant for modern, daily wear.

Additionally, learning the complexities of running a growing business was a steep learning curve. As a family-owned business, we had to master the logistics of supply chains and scaling operations while staying true to our mission. But I learned that confidence isn’t about being fearless; it’s about embracing these challenges with determination.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I serve as the CEO of Palestinian Elegance. My work specializes in the preservation and promotion of Palestinian culture through high-quality, modern embroidery, specifically focusing on traditional garments like Thobes (embroidered dresses) and Kuffiyehs (scarves).

What sets us apart is our hybrid approach: we are one of the few cultural brands that offer both a robust e-commerce experience—verified on platforms ranging from Amazon to SHEIN and Walmart—and a physical retail experience where customers can see and feel the products. I am most proud of our “Authentic” Kuffiyeh line and our ability to offer customization options for weddings and special occasions, ensuring that our customers can wear their history with pride.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people is that my journey as an entrepreneur is built on the foundation of being a Palestinian refugee. Resilience is not just a buzzword for our brand; it is a personal reality. This background fuels my clear “why”—my purpose is not just selling clothes, but preserving a heritage that has faced existential threats. Additionally, despite being a boutique cultural brand, we have managed to secure placement and verification on massive global marketplaces like Walmart and SHEIN, which is quite rare for niche heritage brands.
