Today we’d like to introduce you to Tashima Everhart.
Hi Tashima, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Tashima Everhart, a Houston native, Dallas-raised, is a natural-born hairstylist whose journey through beauty, business, and perseverance is as powerful as the transformations she creates behind the chair.
Hair has been a part of Everhart’s life since childhood. What began as a passion at a young age grew into a calling—one that led her to cosmetology school at 18. Her path to licensure was not easy or linear. It took three attempts and nearly a decade to complete her education due to life challenges she faced along the way. Still, Everhart never quit. Today, she is a fully licensed cosmetologist who stands firmly in her purpose.
By the age of 28, Everhart opened her first salon in Oak Cliff, Dallas, with the encouragement and support of her grandmother, Janet Brown, who passed away three years ago. That milestone marked the beginning of an entrepreneurial journey that would include four salon locations across Dallas—a legacy Everhart continues to honor through her work.
Her second salon, Major Skillz Hair Salon, was located in South Dallas on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, near the historic Forest Theatre. Her third salon, Visions Hair Studio Salon, was located in Downtown Dallas, inside the South Side on Lamar building.
Like many small-business owners, Everhart faced devastating setbacks during the COVID era. She lost her salon, her stability, and at one point, her housing—living out of her car and moving between the homes of family and friends. That season, she says, revealed hard truths about life and relationships but ultimately strengthened her faith and resilience.
In 2022, while rebuilding, Everhart found support at Drybar Hair Salon inside NorthPark Mall, where she worked for several years. She credits Maggie, Shannon Williams, and Nicole for showing compassion and understanding during one of the most difficult periods of her life. Their support helped her regain stability while continuing to grow her clientele.
By 2025, Everhart’s personal business had expanded enough for her to step away from Drybar and return fully to entrepreneurship. She also acknowledges the support of her child’s father, Neco, who helped her reestablish herself and open her newest salon.
Today, Tashima Everhart is once again operating a salon—this time in North Dallas on Forest Lane—standing as a testament to perseverance, faith, and determination. She embraces every chapter of her journey, believing that the setbacks were necessary steps toward her purpose.
“I don’t regret any part of my story,” Everhart says. “I thank God for all of it.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. This journey has come with many ups and downs, especially while building and maintaining my fourth salon. One of my biggest challenges has been staffing. I’ve tried to bring in stylists to work alongside me, but for different reasons, they haven’t stayed. That has been discouraging at times, especially when my goal is to build a strong, long-term team.
Another challenge has been finances. I want to remodel the salon and create an even more inviting space, but right now I simply can’t afford it. I’ve had moments where I questioned whether the condition of the space is part of why stylists don’t stay. I don’t have all the answers yet, but I trust that when the time is right, God will bless me with the resources to do what needs to be done.
Despite the struggles, I remain grateful. I’m blessed to have the salon, and I’m especially thankful for my loyal clientele. Their support keeps me going. My desire is to grow a team of stylists who will grow with me, and I believe that will happen in time.
Now that I’m older and wiser, I’m committed to keeping this salon and its name. I’ve learned from past experiences, and I truly believe I’m making better, more intentional decisions. Financially, it hasn’t been easy, but I’m determined to keep pushing forward. I am not a quitter. I’m a winner—and I believe this chapter will become my smoothest road yet.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a diverse hairstylist who works with all hair textures and types. I specialize in blowouts, silk presses, hair extensions, and natural hair care, with a strong focus on healthy hair and growth. My goal is not just to style hair, but to educate my clients on how to properly care for their hair at home so it continues to thrive between appointments.
I’m known for my strong work ethic, my fast-paced and efficient service, and the way I genuinely care about my clients’ hair health. Natural hair growth is very important to me, and I take pride in helping clients see real results over time.
What I’m most proud of is the skill set God has given me. I don’t take my gift lightly. Every client who sits in my chair is trusting me with their hair, and I honor that responsibility.
What sets me apart is that I’m different—and I embrace that. My style, my personality, and my approach to hair are unique. I’m also a big believer in holistic hair care. I use a variety of herbs and natural ingredients to support scalp health and promote hair growth, and I tailor my methods to each client’s individual needs.
I believe my gifts, my authenticity, and my commitment to healthy hair are what truly separate me from others in the industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’ve experienced both what people might call good luck and bad luck, but I personally don’t see my journey as luck alone. I believe everything I’ve gone through has had a purpose. Some moments felt like doors opening at exactly the right time, while others felt like doors closing unexpectedly—but both shaped who I am today.
There were times when things fell apart in ways I couldn’t control, and at the time it felt like bad luck. Looking back, those moments pushed me to grow stronger, wiser, and more resilient. They taught me how to survive, how to rebuild, and how to trust God even when the outcome was uncertain.
When good things happened—opportunities, loyal clients, support at the right time—I see that as favor and alignment rather than luck. I’ve learned that preparation, faith, and persistence matter just as much as timing.
Overall, I believe my success hasn’t come from luck alone. It’s come from endurance, hard work, and trusting that even the hard seasons were preparing me for where I am now.
