Meet Nicole Khan of Smackletics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Khan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
One day I was at the gym working out. I noticed a personal trainer talking to one of his clients about nutrition, I could not help but listen to the conversation.

They were talking about what foods to eat if they have a gluten sensitivity. The personal trainer was giving some basic information, but I did not agree with some of the things he was advising. After the client left, I braced myself and decided to go up to him and introduce myself as a nutritionist and explain what he could have said instead. After I explain that I was a nutritionist his eyes got wide and he looked so excited! “Oh, I would love to chat with you more!” Every Friday for about a month or two Sean and I would go to Starbucks and have nutrition counseling sessions in exchange for hard-core workouts at the gym.

After so many times of seeing each other and conversing, we formed a friendship and a strong bond. He use to tell me about how he was so passionate about starting up a fitness brand to help people get into shape, be preventative about their health, and bring awareness, motivation, and education. I was so touched by his dream and his life story that made him want to do these things. That was when I realized I wanted to help make it a reality. Our nutrition and workout sessions started becoming business meetings, and then our business meetings started to become professional inspirational fitness and nutrition videos, and then the brand became alive.

Today we have a family of professionals with unique strength and skills that makes Smackletics thrive. We have a CEO, a marketing specialist/coordinator, variety of amazing and highly qualified personal trainers, a licensed physical therapist that is an experienced body-builder and has participated in a variety of physique shows and placed multiple times, we have a qualified and experienced community nutritionist (me), and we have a great bunch of “smackletes” to help advertise and promote the brand.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
With any start-up business, there are always obstacles one will encounter. The main one we experienced was getting our brand established and marketing to the very specific population that is number one, passionate about health and fitness and two, willing to tag along with us on our journey toward success.

We are still trying to figure things out but we are all very optimistic. Sean’s motivational speeches and inspiration keep us on track. I have never met anyone that is 100% dedicated and focused on their dream. Sean always moves forward even if there is a glitch or something that is supposed to hold him back. This is the very reason why I want to continue to be part of the Smackletics family.

Smackletics – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I graduated with a BS in nutrition and dietetics and now I am working on my MS in health. I am currently working on multiple research articles for publication and will eventually start my thesis where I plan to correlate my findings with a book I am writing. With all my experiences and knowledge, I am proud to be called the nutritionist at Smackletics.

I make sure our clients get enough nutrition to support their transforming bodies. I specialize in bone health which is not very common – but I am very passionate about having strong bones and teaching people how they can get the best nutrients to support their bones from unique sources of foods other than only relying on dairy. I also specialize in weight-maintenance, weight-loss, and healthy weight gain.

Additionally, I connect with our clients by understanding their culture and dietary preferences and needs. I make everyone’s plan specialized to their lifestyle. I incorporate things they enjoy eating but make it healthier and limit certain things. I am proud to be one of the first smacklete’s to assist in establishing the company and I am especially proud to be the nutritionist.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success does not always have to be defined on paper like having multiple degrees or how high up you are in a company. I define success based on how I feel. I ask myself questions: do I feel accomplished? Did I reach my goals? What else can I do to make myself feel complete and happy? Making a list of things to accomplish to reach my goals always helps keep me stay organized and focused.
