Today we’d like to introduce you to BLK Studios.
Hi BLK, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We all grew up in N.I.A Kids for the Performing Arts, which is Jeremiah’s mother, Latara Thompkins, is a non-profit organization for youth and teens. We all met there, where we enhanced our gifts of acting, singing, and dancing. BLK initially started as The Dip, which was the idea from Buddy, until one day Leonard was driving and saw the letters “BLK” across his windshield. Obviously thinking he was hallucinating, he told Buddy what he saw to Buddy, and then it clicked. The letters were their initials, “Buddy”, the nickname of Jeremiah, Leonard, and Khalvin. We eventually sat down and decided we wanted to create what we felt was slipping away, good quality filmmaking. We wanted to showcase our acting talents and stories we have always wanted to see on screen.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, this has not been a smooth road; we have always had a struggle for time. Time has always felt as though it were not on our side, or simply slipping away from us. Our jobs have also been a hindrance to our production. As aspiring full-time actors, we want that freedom to create and perfect our craft. We are sometimes shorthanded and have to do it ourselves. We feel like we don’t have the proper equipment. We feel, though, sometimes the quality is not there, which gives your mind obstacles, making us wonder if the work we’re doing is good enough to be seen. Nevertheless, that’s what drives us to do better every time we film.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are actors. We create and film original scenes, also recreations of films, and tv shows. We do this because it’s a great way to showcase our acting skills and range. Which we feel is our specialty, the editing and camera work just comes with the territory. We are mostly known for our recreation series of The CW’s TV show “The Originals”. We are most proud of the result we got from taking action on the idea of BLK. Seeing the growth, the following, and the positive feedback we receive from people around the world, our friends, and family.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
NONE, we consider it a blessing and hard work. Every opportunity we have had has been a blessing. If we sit and wait on luck, we’ll forever be stuck in the same space.
