Meet Michael Awosemo of Nzone Sports – North Fort Worth (NFW)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Awosemo.

Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My passion for sports began at the age of six when my father took me to a football match. That experience changed my life, sparked a deep interest in the game, and made me want sports to be a fundamental part of my identity.

Over the years, I have followed various teams and tournaments, analyzed games, and passionately dissected plays. Throughout my school and college years, I actively played football while maintaining a strong academic record.

Moving forward, I plan to continue participating in leagues and coaching youth sports. I find great fulfillment in teaching and mentoring younger athletes, including my own two sons, and I am dedicated to using my experience to help them improve and succeed.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While I wish the path had been smooth, the reality has been quite the opposite. As a Christian, I strongly believe that God puts us through tests to prepare us for what is to come. I have had to overcome the challenges of migrating from my home country in 2001 and restarting my life here at a young age.

To make ends meet, I balanced working full-time with a full-time academic schedule. I graduated from college in 2007 and went on to earn my graduate degree in 2011.

I realized early on that a traditional 9-5 career would not suffice; I have always aspired to be my own boss and define my own limits. Through failure, I have learned valuable lessons, and through success, I have gained strength and courage. These experiences have shaped my mentality to always push for more and never settle for less, all while keeping God at the center of my journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nzone Sports – North Fort Worth (NFW). For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At N Zone Sports, we feel that all kids should get to play the sports they love, and we focus on building sportsmanship and teamwork in a supportive environment.

N Zone’s programs will allow your child to strengthen sports fundamentals and develop their skills while also building character and confidence that will help them in future athletic endeavors and throughout their lives.

What makes N Zone’s approach different? Our high quality programs focus on the best elements sports have to offer, while eliminating many typical drawbacks. For children, this means that everyone gets to play, requests to play on a team with a friend or sibling are honored whenever possible, and we focus on positive achievements. For parents, this means that your child’s sports program will contribute to their life rather than controlling yours: our practice and game schedule is parent-friendly, and you will not be forced to participate in fundraisers or to serve as a mandatory “volunteer.” We also increase your peace of mind by requiring comprehensive background checks for coaches and assistant coaches. We aim to make kids’ sports a great experience for the entire family.

N Zone Sports operates youth sports leagues, camps, and programs for children ages 3-14. We hold seasons throughout the year, and offer sports such as flag football, soccer, cheer-leading, basketball, and T-ball. Kids start having fun right away — no drafts or tryouts required! — and the fun lasts all season. We reduce the stress of the youth sports experience while emphasizing the excitement.

What matters most to you? Why?
I have always believed that nothing of true value is given; it must be earned. Greatness is not achieved by doing the bare minimum or simply trying to get by, but rather through a mindset focused on consistently surpassing previous standards. Reflecting on my upbringing, I witnessed how those who never faced challenges were often left unprepared for the realities of life.

This perspective is why I advocate for a balance of being both loving and tough. To me, “tough love” is essential because it cultivates the accountability and responsibility necessary for growth. This approach transforms individuals into mature leaders who are equipped to serve not only themselves but also their communities and the nation.

It matters to me that we all demonstrate integrity, take ownership, and act with responsibility. Furthermore, showing care and compassion toward ourselves and others helps create an environment where everyone can coexist successfully.
