Conversations with Megan McCoy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan McCoy.

Hi Megan , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Indiana and moved to North Carolina at 15, where my love for beauty first took shape through theatre. I designed makeup for over ten productions and was working as a bridal makeup artist by 16. After graduating, I attended beauty school and discovered a deep passion for hair—especially hair health—which ultimately led me to focus on the transformative power of hair.

In 2021, I relocated to the North Dallas area at 20, briefly spending eight months in Charlotte, North Carolina due to my husband’s promotion before returning to Dallas, where I’ve been based since. Over the past four years, I’ve refined my craft specializing in lived-in color and extensions, while remaining versatile across all aspects of color work. At the heart of what I do is helping people feel confident and beautiful in their own skin—because even on the most casual days, great hair has the power to make you feel put together.

My biggest beauty inspirations are Dolly Parton, particularly her Steel Magnolias era glamour, and Sabrina Carpenter, whose modern yet timeless presence continues to redefine classic beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Relocating has been one of my biggest professional challenges. As a hairstylist, each move means leaving behind an established clientele and starting from scratch. I experienced this when I first moved to North Dallas in 2021, again during my time in Charlotte, and once more when I returned in 2024. Changing salon spaces adds another layer, requiring you to rebuild trust and momentum each time.

At the same time, I became a new mother. I returned to work six weeks postpartum while breastfeeding, which presents its own challenges when you work behind the chair without a set schedule. Balancing early motherhood with a demanding career isn’t easy, especially during those first milestones, but it’s been made possible through the support of my coworkers, clients, friends, family, and my husband. His support through all of this has been a key role in keeping me going.

It’s a challenging season—but one we make work.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Working in Dallas keeps me inspired—trends shift with the seasons, and my work evolves alongside them. I specialize in lived-in color and extensions, which can take many forms depending on the client and their lifestyle.

Corrective color and transformations are a major part of my work and something I truly enjoy. Extensions often play a key role in these services, as they can create impactful results without always requiring an extensive color process.

While I was initially drawn to vivid color, those techniques now serve as tools within my corrective work. My passion ultimately lives in natural, dimensional color. From on-scalp blonding and foils to balayage, lived-in looks, platinums, and reds—I’m comfortable working across the full spectrum of color.

Something I’m the most proud of is that I don’t give up. When a new challenge presents itself, I find the solution and work towards that. I’m very proud of the fact that even with relocating out of state and within North Dallas- that I have consistently been able to rebuild and improve.

My guests and my family mean the world to me. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is honesty and care. My goal is to make people feel beautiful without shame—only education. I’m transparent about what your hair can realistically handle and what it will take to achieve your vision. From the moment you sit in my chair to your next visit, the health of your hair is my priority. Being surrounded by other women who share that same standard has been one of my greatest blessings.

Equally important is my son. Everything I do now, is for him. I want him to grow up seeing that his mom worked hard, followed her passion, and built a career she loves while raising a family. It takes intention and effort, but it’s possible—and that example matters to me most.
