Meet Katherine Tavarez of SKNNBROWS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Tavarez.

Hi Katherine, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started way before I even became a student in esthetics. I’ve always enjoyed things like pimple popping, but I never actually saw it as a potential career path. Growing up, I was always told to go to college and pursue a lucrative career. I knew I could do anything I put my mind to, but I never imagined it would be in aesthetics.
Growing up in New York taught me everything I needed to succeed in business, including that strong work ethic. Moving to Dallas was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, especially since I didn’t know anyone here. But it was here that I truly became more aligned with myself and discovered everything I actually enjoy.
That’s where I built hands-on skills as an esthetics student and developed a real passion for brow artistry, skincare, and helping people enhance their natural beauty. With that New York-born drive, I initially continued working my full time job in education/in the laser industry before deciding to take the leap into entrepreneurship, trading the comfort of being an employee for the challenge of building something entirely my own.
I launched SKNNBROWS to focus on precision brow threading, custom facials, advanced esthetic services like laser hair removal, and even brow training courses for others in the field. It began as a vision to create a space for personalized, high-quality treatments, and over time (with 2+ years of experience highlighted), I’ve grown it into a dedicated business inside locations like Image Studios in Plano.
The path hasn’t been easy. Entrepreneurship has brought trials, lessons in discipline over just motivation, and real talk about burnout, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. From starting out solo and reflecting on early months as an independent esthetician, to connecting with clients, expanding services, and sharing my story publicly (like on podcasts and videos), I’ve turned dreams into reality through consistent grind and growth.
Today, SKNNBROWS is about empowering clients (and aspiring pros) with tailored beauty solutions, and I’m proud of how far it’s come while staying true to my original values and what drove me to create this business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Most of my challenges have come from not being originally from Texas, which means I’ve had to constantly adapt and find fresh ways to market myself to connect with this local community. The esthetics industry is constantly evolving, and one of the most important things is to keep growing and adapting alongside those changes, never becoming stagnant, while still staying completely true to your original vision and to who you are as a person, without ever losing yourself in the process.
On top of that, the financial side of starting a business has been really tough. It requires pouring in everything you have, time, money, energy, all without any certainty about what the results will be. That level of risk and uncertainty has been one of the biggest hurdles, but it’ has also continued to build my resilience and taught me the true meaning of commitment.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SKNNBROWS ?
I specialize in Eyebrow Threading, Facials, Acne Facials, Athlete Facials and soon to come laser hair removal. I provide a lot of brow thread training to other business owners and students.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I’ve always been a very hands-on person who loved learning about anything and everything that caught my interest. I was really into playing sports like softball and watching baseball. At the same time, I enjoyed attending events and loved meeting new people and making connections.
