Community Highlights: Meet Winifred Simon of Scale-Smart Telehealth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Winifred Simon.

Hi Winifred, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in Nigeria and later immigrated to the United States after my father filed for me. Growing up, my parents emphasized the value of education, perseverance, and faith, which shaped the foundation of who I am today. While my father hoped I would become a physician, I knew early on that nursing, and eventually becoming a nurse practitioner was the right path for me. It felt like the perfect balance between science, compassion, and human connection.

I earned my Associate Degree in Nursing, followed by my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and began my career at Parkland Hospital, an institution that gave me an opportunity early on and continues to feel like home. I spent over a decade working in oncology, an experience that deeply influenced my understanding of resilience, empathy, and patient-centered care. During my nurse practitioner clinical rotations (Masters Program), I discovered a passion for women’s health. With the guidance and mentorship of an incredible preceptor who believed in me, I gained the confidence and experience that shaped my path in this specialty.

Alongside my professional journey, I’ve faced personal health challenges, including longstanding struggles with weight. Navigating those challenges taught me firsthand how deeply physical health, access to care, and emotional well-being are connected. When medically assisted weight management became more accessible, it changed my life; not just physically, but in how empowered I felt as a patient. Friends and family began asking questions, and I realized how many people were struggling simply because they lacked access, support, or clear guidance.

That realization planted the seed for entrepreneurship and made me pause to ask how I could show up for others in a more meaningful way. Starting my own virtual practice was both exciting and intimidating. I questioned whether I was ready, but through prayer, mentorship, and continued training, I found clarity and confidence. Today, my work allows me to care for patients in a way that feels both professional and deeply personal, unrushed, respectful, and centered on real results. Seeing patients feel heard, supported, and healthier is what motivates me every day.

Life has also taught me that circumstances do not define our limits. After experiencing personal setbacks, I made a conscious decision to redefine success and ensure that my life and work remained meaningful and impactful. My journey continues to remind me that growth often comes from stepping forward with faith, humility, and gratitude.

If my story does anything, I hope it encourages others to pursue purpose over fear, to trust the process, and to remember that meaningful change, both personal and professional often begins right where you are. Thank you.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me has been learning to fully trust myself my voice, my instincts, and the vision I hold for the kind of care I want to provide. Stepping outside of familiar systems and building something of my own required becoming comfortable with uncertainty while continuing to grow.
Balancing clinical work with entrepreneurship came with its own learning curve. I had to stretch beyond my formal training, learn entirely new skills, and at times sit with the question of whether I was truly ready. Like many women, I’ve experienced moments of self-doubt and personal transitions that pushed me to pause, reflect, and redefine what success truly means to me.
What carried me through those moments was faith, mentorship, and a willingness to keep showing up even when things felt uncomfortable. Each challenge shaped me not only professionally, but personally, and taught me to lead with empathy, patience, and humility. Looking back, I see that those obstacles weren’t setbacks; they were necessary steps in becoming who I am today.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Scale-Smart Telehealth was created to make healthcare feel more accessible, flexible, and human. Many of the people I serve; especially women balancing careers, motherhood, family responsibilities, and demanding schedules, simply don’t have the time to sit in waiting rooms or feel rushed through appointments. I also care for men and individuals without insurance who are navigating rising premiums and limited coverage options. My goal was to build a practice where care fits into real life, not the other way around.

As a nurse practitioner, I wanted to create a model rooted in time, trust, and thoughtful care, not quick fixes or one-size-fits-all solutions. Scale-Smart Telehealth specializes in medically assisted weight management, women’s health services, family planning, chronic disease management, and preventive care. This includes comprehensive lab review and interpretation, routine health maintenance, screenings and referrals such as mammograms, and ongoing support for conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and metabolic concerns.
Care is delivered through a self-pay telehealth model, meaning no insurance is required and pricing is transparent, with flexible payment options. This approach removes many traditional barriers to care and allows patients to access services with clarity and confidence.
What truly sets Scale-Smart Telehealth apart is how care is delivered. Appointments are unhurried, conversations are honest, and patients are encouraged to be active participants in their health. I take time to explain the “why” behind recommendations, walk patients through their lab results in a way that feels understandable, and help them explore options that align with their goals and lifestyle.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust my patients place in me and the relationships we build together. Scale-Smart Telehealth isn’t just about managing numbers or conditions; it’s about helping people feel informed, supported, and empowered. I want readers to know that my brand is rooted in compassionate, high-quality care that feels both professional and genuinely personal.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m open to collaborating with individuals and organizations who value thoughtful, patient-centered care and are committed to expanding access to high-quality healthcare. This includes referral partnerships, educational collaborations, and aligned professional relationships that support individuals and communities in meaningful ways.

As Scale-Smart Telehealth continues to grow, I’m especially interested in working with clinicians, wellness professionals, community organizations, and businesses who share a similar mission. Support can also come through spreading awareness, sharing resources, and helping connect people to care that is accessible, respectful, and evidence-based. My focus is on building intentional, action-oriented partnerships that make it easier for people to receive the care they deserve. Thank you.
