Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Confiliano.
Hi Liz, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Goodwill North Central Texas is a nonprofit organization focused on helping people achieve independence through education, training and employment. While many people know us for our retail stores and donation centers, those operations support our broader mission of removing barriers to opportunity.
We provide workforce development, adult education and literacy, career training and supportive services for individuals facing challenges to employment, including adults seeking their GED, individuals learning English, people with disabilities, veterans and others navigating career transitions. Our programs are designed to meet people where they are and help them move forward with dignity.
What sets us apart is our integrated approach. Education and employment services work together, allowing individuals to move between programs as their needs evolve. At our core, Goodwill North Central Texas is about creating pathways to opportunity, and when people support Goodwill, they’re supporting life-changing outcomes in their community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been smooth. The individuals we serve often face complex barriers such as transportation, childcare, financial instability,or past negative educational experiences. Designing programs that truly meet those needs requires flexibility and innovation. Expanding into online GED and literacy options, for example, required investment in technology, instructor training and learner support systems. But those challenges pushed us to evolve in ways that ultimately made our services more accessible and impactful.
We’ve been impressed with Goodwill North Central Texas, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Goodwill North Central Texas provides workforce development, Adult Education and Literacy services, career training, and employment support for individuals facing barriers to opportunity. What sets us apart is our integrated approach, education and employment services work together under one roof. Someone earning their GED can also access job readiness support, skills training and employer connections. Brand-wise, we’re most proud that our name represents more than retail; it represents dignity, opportunity and measurable pathways to independence.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Our success is built on strong community partnerships and dedicated team members. Local employers, school districts, workforce boards and nonprofit partners help connect individuals to our services and ensure our programs align with real workforce needs. Our instructors and staff provide daily encouragement and expertise. Most importantly, our learners deserve credit, their resilience and determination are what truly drive the outcomes we celebrate.
