Today we’d like to introduce you to Raul Jaquez.
Hi Raul, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Panther City Remodeling has technically been around since 1996, but the new version that many may know today really took shape after the 2008 financial crisis. As a family-owned and ran business, this period forced our family to rethink everything. Because work had slowed down, we were in a crossroads deciding whether to keep depending on subcontracting jobs, or fully dive in and build something of our own. We chose the latter. As we worked more closely with families, we noticed somethings that didn’t entirely sit right with us. We noticed that many remodeling companies were charging unreasonable prices for subpar work. We figured that since these companies were focused more on scale and project volume, we’d focus on craftsmanship and quality instead. As a family-owned business, we intentionally take on a limited number of projects each month so we can give every home the attention it deserves. For years, we grew almost entirely through word of mouth here in North Texas. We didn’t even go fully digital until 2025. That’s something we’re proud of because it means our growth was built on trust and referrals, not advertising. Even today our goal remains the same as it was in 1996, to not become the biggest remodeling company, but to become the most trusted.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like with life, businesses face ups and downs. However, that’s what has shaped us. Since we relied almost entirely on referrals, we believed that if we did great work, the phone would keep ringing. And most of the time, it did. But there were seasons where it didn’t. There were various moments where we would finish a project and have nothing lined up. That uncertainty can be stressful when you’re running a family business and people are counting on you. We also learned some tough lessons early on. Not every client is the right fit. Not every project goes exactly as planned. Materials get delayed. Subcontractors fall short. Inspections surprise you. We’ve had moments where we had to fix problems that weren’t even ours. Still, looking back, we needed the struggles. They made us more disciplined, strategic, and confident.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As cofounder, and the oldest son, I’m a specialized generalist on all things digital. My main expertise is in search engine optimization (SEO), but have vast experience in advertising, like Google’s Pay-Per-Click, email marketing, and web design. I have worked with various home service businesses, both in-house and at the corporate level at a private equity firm. I’m most proud of the team I surround myself with. As someone who enjoys learning something new everyday, I enjoy working with people who know more than me as it helps everyone grow into a better and more capable individual. As for what separates me from others, I believe that can be attributed to my work ethic and competitive nature. I am a firm believer that while innate characteristics like aptitude are a gift, no one can beat hard work and trying to be the best.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
At Panther City Remodeling, we see a few, but big shifts happening. First, homeowners are becoming more educated. People are researching materials, watching renovation videos, and reading reviews before picking up the phone to call a contractor. This means that transparency and trust are going to matter more than ever. Second, we’ll see a stark divide between volume contractors and craftsmanship-driven remodelers. Although there will be always companies who prioritize speed and scale, homeowners, especially in the areas like Southlake, Colleyville, and Fort Worth, are starting to care more about quality and attention to detail. Energy efficiency and smarter homes will also continue to rise in popularity. Better insulation, thoughtful layouts, and materials that last longer in Texas weather will be more important. Lastly, we think branding and digital presence will play a bigger role. For a long time, construction was built almost entirely on word of mouth. While that is still powerful, homeowners now want to see your work online and feel connected to your story before they ever reach out. At the end of the day, the future belongs to those who blend craftsmanship with transparency, do solid work, and treat people fairly.
