Conversations with LaQuishua Bursey

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaQuishua Bursey.

Hi LaQuishua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into hair started from a genuine love for beauty, creativity, and helping people feel confident in themselves. What began as a passion quickly turned into a purpose as I realized how powerful hair can be—not just in how someone looks, but in how they feel. Early on, I dedicated myself to learning, practicing, and perfecting my craft, even when the process was challenging and required patience, sacrifice, and resilience.

Over time, I developed my skills and found my lane within the industry, focusing on styles and services that allow me to enhance natural beauty while maintaining healthy hair. Like many entrepreneurs, my path wasn’t linear. I faced moments of uncertainty, growth pains, and lessons that pushed me to evolve both personally and professionally. Those experiences shaped my work ethic and strengthened my commitment to showing up consistently for my clients.

Today, I’m proud to be building a brand rooted in quality, trust, and creativity. I’m grateful to serve a diverse clientele and to be known for my attention to detail, professionalism, and passion for what I do. Every step of my journey has led me to where I am now, and I’m excited to continue growing, inspiring, and leaving my mark in the beauty industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, my journey has not been easy, but every challenge played a role in shaping who I am today. One of my biggest struggles was obtaining my license. During that time, I found it hard to focus and stay aligned, and I reached a point where I had to pause and have a deep, honest conversation with God about my purpose and direction.

I returned to what I knew and found stability working at my daughter’s school. It was there that I met Mrs. Moore, a woman who became instrumental in my life. She prayed over me and spoke life into my future when I needed it most. She believed in me before I fully believed in myself. Her story mirrored mine in many ways, with one major difference—she didn’t stop. That realization stayed with me.

Another major source of strength was my grandmother, Dorothy Bursey. She was incredibly talented and one of the best stylists I knew. She used to do my hair, and it would always flow beautifully down my back. She often told me, “Baby, don’t do what your granny did and not finish.” Her words stayed with me and pushed me to keep going, even when things felt heavy. I’ve had setbacks along the way, but as my granny always said, we don’t cry over spilled milk—we learn and move forward.

I began my business journey in my own salon suite in Mesquite, Texas, then later moved to the Babe Cave in Forney, Texas. During that time, clients would often mention another salon with the same name as mine, Nikki C. I decided to visit, and when I met Nikki, she said, “God wanted this for you. This was divine—I’m Nikki C, and you’re Nikki C.” From that moment on, Luxury By Nikki C became my salon home.

Since then, my clientele has continued to grow beyond what I imagined. Looking back, every obstacle, prayer, and lesson was necessary. None of it was wasted—it all led me exactly where I was meant to be.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My journey is deeply rooted in resilience, faith, and purpose. I am not only a professional hairstylist, but also a mother of eight, and every part of my life has shaped the way I show up in my work. Balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and personal growth has required strength, discipline, and grace—but it has also given me clarity, patience, and an unshakable sense of purpose.

I specialize in silk presses, color, and weaves, with a strong emphasis on healthy hair and intentional care. I’m known for creating polished, timeless looks while maintaining the integrity of my clients’ hair. For me, hair is more than a service—it’s an experience rooted in trust, comfort, and confidence. I approach every client with the same care I bring to my family: attentiveness, honesty, and consistency.

What I’m most proud of is continuing to build my brand while leading by example for my children and for women who are navigating motherhood with multiple responsibilities. I want my children to see what perseverance, commitment, and self-belief look like in action—not just in words. By choosing to keep growing, learning, and pursuing my goals, I’m showing them that it’s possible to create a meaningful life without abandoning peace or purpose.

I’m also deeply committed to furthering my education, both within my craft and beyond, because I believe growth is a lifelong journey. Continuing my education allows me to evolve personally and professionally, while also serving as a reminder to other women—especially mothers of many—that their dreams are still valid and attainable at every stage of life.

What sets me apart is my ability to create beauty while navigating real life with intention. I honor the process, trust the journey, and lead with purpose. My story is one of balance, resilience, and legacy, and I hope it encourages others to keep moving forward with confidence and grace.
