Today we’d like to introduce you to George Ferrie.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We started this business with community in mind. As long time advocates for accessible mental health we realized there was a gap in our community for affordable mental health care. As career social workers we’ve worked in varying different arenas within the social work field including children, families, healthcare, and advocacy. With strong roots in school social work, we often talked about the challenges of being able to support children and families experiencing severe mental health challenges due to lack of resources. We realized this was our opportunity to show up for our community. With values rooted in accessibility, affordability, compassion, affirmation, and care we started Radiant Counseling & Wellness Collective with everyone in mind. With a friendship spanning across decades we knew starting a business together was something we could do! We are thankful for each other’s strengths, dedication, and hard work in building something we can both be proud of and apart of for years to come.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a private practice isn’t easy for anyone, but we knew that! What we didn’t anticipate was all of the love and support we’d receive from so many of our community members. One of the biggest struggles you experience when starting any business is generating revenue and private practice is no different. We have worked hard to grow our clientele and remain hopeful it will continue to grow. Our greatest effort is ensuring that we maintain affordability and accessibility for clients.
We’ve been impressed with Radiant Counseling & Wellness Collective, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Radiant Counseling & Wellness Collective is more than just a counseling group. We’re a collective built on the belief that connection is the foundation of healing. We are dedicated to creating a warm, non-judgemental space where folks can speak their truth and honor their story. What sets us apart and what we’re most proud of are one in the same. We offer affirming and compassionate therapy services to all folks at any stage of life. We pride ourselves on being able to offer sliding scale services with no questions asked. We know how hard it can be to ask for help. It’s even harder to admit that help is outside of your financial capacity. It is because of this that we work to ensure no client is turned away due to financial constraints. At Radiant we are a wealth of knowledge and experience in both the clinical and academic settings. Working in schools taught us that there is so much parents don’t know when it comes to supportive resources for their children. We offer speciality services like assisting caregivers with 504 and IEP plan reviews. This is a valuable resource to any caregiver looking to explore options for their student experiencing mental health challenges, learning differences, or physical limitations. Additionally, we thoroughly enjoy supporting caregivers, and families as they navigate challenges within their family unit. We offer support to all families regardless of their make-up or dynamics. We believe that change starts with open and honest communication and understanding amongst all family members and couples! At Radiant Counseling & Wellness Collective we offer a variety of therapeutic services. We love working alongside you to provide you, your partner, and/or your family with tangible skills to create lasting change. Our biggest accomplishment to date has been contracting with all major insurance providers to offer as many folks as possible access to us and our services. At Radiant we truly love being apart of the community. We work hard to show up, support, and advocate. Those efforts translate to our clients as well. We are proud of the business we have built and look forward to what’s to come.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Living and working in Denton is a truly magical experience. The community here is great! We love seeing small businesses work together to support the community and engage in social change. Denton is definitely a hidden gem. We love Saturday markets, seeing the city transform during Halloween, amazing restaurants, and spectacular community events! The biggest challenge is the location of this quaint city. Being distanced from major cities can definitely be difficult, but our love for this city supersedes the frustrations of the location.
