Inspiring Conversations with Jennifer Arthur of Children’s Cancer Fund

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Arthur.

Hi Jennifer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I came to Children’s Cancer Fund carrying a very personal understanding of what a cancer battle looks like. My own family had walked through it, the uncertainty, the strength it demands, and the way it changes you long after the hardest days are over. But even with that history, I didn’t set out searching for this job or imagining myself in this role. In many ways, it found me.

What began as a willingness to help a local non-profit, gradually became something much deeper. The more families I met, the more I realized this work wasn’t just a job, it was a passion. I saw pieces of my own story reflected in theirs, and that connection shaped how I showed up, how I listened, and eventually how I led.

Today, serving as CEO isn’t about a title I chased, it’s about a responsibility I’ve grown into. My experiences, both personal and professional have taught me that leadership here means meeting people where they are, honoring their journeys, and helping build a community that carries families forward when they need it most. I didn’t plan this path, but looking back, every step prepared me to stand in it with purpose and heart.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has it been a smooth road? Not even close. There have been moments of uncertainty, hard decisions that didn’t come with easy answers, and seasons that stretched me more than I ever expected. Leading in the nonprofit space, especially in a mission tied so closely to families facing pediatric cancer, means carrying both hope and heartbreak at the same time.

But the challenges have also shaped me. They’ve taught me resilience, perspective, and the importance of surrounding myself with people who believe deeply in the mission. Every obstacle has reinforced why this work matters and remind me that meaningful impact rarely comes from an easy path. Looking back, I wouldn’t describe the journey as smooth, I’d describe it as real, refining, and deeply worth it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Children’s Cancer Fund is about showing up for kids and families when life is incredibly heavy, and helping them feel supported, seen, and celebrated along the way. We fund pediatric cancer research and provide programs that bring real moments of connection, confidence, and joy to children during treatment.

What makes us a little different is how we approach it. We don’t just focus on the clinical side of cancer; we focus on the whole child and the whole family. Whether it’s through our fashion show, patient experiences, or the community we’ve built around our mission, we try to create spaces where kids feel like kids again, not just patients.

People often know us for the fashion show and gala, but what I’m most proud of is the feeling behind the brand. There’s a sense of warmth and authenticity that comes from families, donors, doctors, and supporters all being part of something bigger than themselves. It’s not just about fundraising, it’s about creating moments that give families strength and remind them they’re not walking this road alone.

If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know, it’s that Children’s Cancer Fund is truly a community. Every partnership, every program, and every dollar raised is rooted in the belief that compassion and action can exist side by side. We want people to feel connected to the impact, to know that when they support us, they’re helping create hope today while also investing in a better future for kids facing cancer

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
And maybe the most honest thing I can say is this: none of us choose the hard parts of life, but we do get to choose how we respond to them. Our families choose courage every day. Our supporters choose generosity. And as an organization, we choose to keep creating moments that remind kids they’re still kids, full of personality, strength, and a future worth celebrating.

So if you walk away remembering anything, let it be this, hope isn’t a quiet idea here. It’s something you can see, feel, and be part of.
