Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Dre.
DJ , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My DJ journey started while I was attending Midwestern State University where we had a large number of Caribbean students at the time. After moving to Dallas in 2017, a noticeable need for quality events and music catered towards the Caribbean community here in the DFW area was recognized. Being from the Caribbean, and going to a University with a large number of Caribbean students, I knew it was something persons who share my background would enjoy having more of.
I marketed myself and was able grow my brand throughout the Metroplex which then allowed me to gain recognition in other areas such as weddings, corporate events, school events & community functions.
While I was able to showcase my DJ skills at events all over the Metroplex, I still felt like something was lacking in our Caribbean community and after traveling to other cities and to various islands to perform for events, a plan emerged.
This blossomed into beautiful events such as Spring Palooza which has grown to be the largest outdoor Caribbean day party in the DFW area. We were also able to bring events such as Bottle Fete to Dallas as well.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There were numerous struggles faced. Most notably, being from a smaller island in the Caribbean and not getting much recognition, being overlooked for certain events due to not being viewed as like enough.
Also faced challenges getting persons on board with the vision and what to expect from the brand.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What do I do? – I am a DJ and party promoter.
I specialize in playing for parties of any kind along with community and corporate events.
I am most known for deejaying in Caribbean parties across the Metroplex and through the US & Caribbean islands.
I am most proud of the Palooza brand we have created and continue to grow into a worldwide recognized brand.
What sets me apart from the others is the flexibility I am able to have when it comes to events I am doing and the quality I give to patrons.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a jovial child who spent 6 out of the 7 days at the church. I have always played music, whether it be piano, drums and the steel pan from as young as I can remember all the way through University until becoming a DJ.
