Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Halperin.
Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I founded the Art Club of Fort Worth because I realized I needed an artistic community of my own. I kept discovering vibrant art groups across North Texas, yet I couldn’t find anything similar here in Fort Worth — which felt surprising given how rich and creative our city truly is. Instead of waiting for that space to appear, I decided to build it. What started as a personal need for connection has grown into a community where artists can learn, share, and feel supported.
My journey to where I am today hasn’t been a straight line. For a long time, I struggled to express my creative side — not because I didn’t have the desire, but because life pulled me in directions that made it hard to prioritize myself. I’ve dealt with addiction, and during those years, my creativity felt buried under everything I was trying to survive.
When I finally began rebuilding my life, art became one of the first things that made me feel whole again. I started looking for a community where I could reconnect with that part of myself, somewhere I could grow, learn, and feel understood. I found amazing art groups around North Texas, but nothing here in Fort Worth that offered the kind of connection I was craving.
That’s when I realized I didn’t just need a community — I needed to create one. The Art Club of Fort Worth grew out of that personal healing, that desire to reclaim my creativity and share it with others who might be searching for the same thing. Every step since then has been about turning struggle into purpose and building a space where artists can show up exactly as they are.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey hasn’t been simple. I spent years feeling disconnected from my creativity and doubting whether my art even mattered. Addiction pulled me even further away from myself, and during that time it was hard to create or feel inspired at all. Rebuilding my life meant rediscovering who I wanted to be, and reconnecting with my creative side became a big part of that. I searched for an art community in Fort Worth but couldn’t find one that offered the support and connection I needed, so I started building it myself. I learned everything from the ground up while balancing my own healing with stepping into a leadership role. Those struggles shaped the Art Club of Fort Worth and the purpose behind it.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My thought process behind starting my own business really came down to purpose, passion, and a long-standing desire to chart my own path, I’ve always been drawn to work that feels meaningful – work that creates impact, builds connection, and allows me to use my strengths fully. Over time, I realized the best way to do that was to create something of my own.
What are your plans for the future?
My plan for the future is to build the Art Club of Fort Worth into a meaningful community that covers all forms of art: visual art, performing art, & recording artists. You do not need to be an artist to become a member. Art lovers and artists are all welcome.
I also plan to have a service side of the club where we can expose art to underserved communities and provide art supplies for them to take home and explore.
