Exploring Life & Business with Matt Powell of Moroch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Powell.

Hi Matt, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Dallas native and a UTA grad. I stumbled into advertising out of college and really have never looked back. After a couple shorter stints at other agencies, I’ve had the opportunity to work at Moroch for the past 25 years. Most of that time, I was on the media team and then leading it. And I’ve had the privilege of being in the CEO role for the last 8 years. And I can truly say, it gets more and more fun every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of Moroch’s values is tenacity. And that is a necessity in the advertising world. But I can truly look back at the more difficult moments and see how it made me better, and how it made the company better. A good example is COVID. What was a challenging situation to navigate, ultimately our Agency came out much stronger.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Moroch is a full service independent agency that is celebrating it’s 45th anniversary this year. Our first client was McDonald’s, and we are now working with the grandson of that client.

From the start, our agency has had a particular focus on brands that are multi-location or multi-unit, and we’ve helped them scale. Our belief as an agency is the Local Changes Everything, and that all brands need to understand they show up in individual markets and communities.

We do a lot of things for brands, but Media and Creative are our two biggest areas of focus. We are fortunate to have the scale to build out in-house teams that can compete with the largest agencies.

What’s next?
In our new office space, we have a mural that is the Moroch name inside of a chameleon. That represents the belief that we need to constantly be evolving. And we’ve been taking major steps to evolve over the past 5 years.

As we look ahead, we are seeing opportunities to grow capabilities but also become faster and more efficient with dollars. AI certainly will play a role in that.
