Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Jaimes.
Hi Kaitlyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for photography first began as a hobby. A close friend of mine was the one who first sparked my interest, and just before the COVID-19 pandemic began, I bought my very first camera.
After lockdown started, I was looking for something to keep myself busy, and I quickly became obsessed with taking photos. My siblings, whom I was still living with at the time, quickly became the victims of my newfound love for photography.
At first, I felt a little shy about sharing my work. But little by little, I began posting on social media. Most of my early sessions were free, and many shoots consisted of me begging friends and family to model for me.
In 2021, I shot my very first wedding. It was a lovely backyard celebration. I remember feeling absolutely terrified that day, but it went surprisingly well. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to be a wedding and couples photographer.
Over the next few years, my business grew slowly and steadily as I balanced volunteer work and a part-time job alongside photography. I spent a lot of my free time listening to podcast on photography, bettering my editing workflow, and studying the work of other photographers that I admire. During that time I also met the love of my life! The love I feel for my husband has greatly inspired my work, and amplified my love for couples photography. I love capturing the genuine connection between two people…not just how it looked, but how it felt. That’s what makes photography so powerful. When you document a moment honestly, you don’t just preserve an image you preserve an emotion. And when that emotion is real, anyone who sees it can feel something too, even if they weren’t there.
I got to where I am today because of my wonderful support system, and because I never gave up on my love for photography!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Yes, and no, I definitely struggled at times with imposter syndrome. I have a bad habit of comparing myself to others, or I compare myself to where I thought I would be by now in my business journey.
Another one of my struggles has been my shyness. I am a natural born introvert, but photography has definitely helped me to come out of my shell quite a bit.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a portrait photographer, and I specialize in Couples photography.
I don’t know that I’m “known” for one specific thing, but when clients book with me they often mention the warmth and playfulness in my work. That genuine connection is what I care about most, because it tell me that I am reaching the right audience, no matter how small.
More than any accomplishment, I am proud that I didn’t quit. I continued building my business despite fear, comparison, and uncertainty and that persistence shaped the photographer I am today.
I believe what sets me apart is the way I genuinely care about the people I work with. I strive to be a a kind and patient person in every aspect of my life, and I approach every session with the same heart. My clients aren’t just a booking to me, they are real people trusting me with meaningful moments, and I take that very seriously,
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was always fond of the outdoors. I was raised in the country, so I spent the majority of my time playing outside. I loved anything to do with animals/nature. I can’t say that I grew up with a camera in hands like many photographers I admire, but I believe that my love for nature has shaped the way that I see and create today.
