Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh, Amelia, Zach.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Chandlr started officially in January 2025 but prior to that our founders had some experience in traditional candle making and markets. Founders, Josh and Zach, first started a candle business over 10 years ago in upstate New York. Due to life careers in first response and the military, the venture ended. Josh continued with entrepreneurship throughout life creating another candle company during Covid but because many people took to starting small businesses the candle market was oversaturated. Josh pivoted to building software for candle makers to help design better candles, learn the process, and provide direct access to calculators and methods. Shortly after, when Covid and the “stay at home” life was over, the market was able to balance out and that venture ended.
A few years later Josh and Zach were back together again in Texas and looking to start something new and exciting – this is where Chandlr started. Instead of traditional candles, they wanted to do something bold, unique, and different and also match their vibes and personality. This is why Chandlr uses granulated wax or “sand wax”, black in color, packed with bold and layered scents for any home, on-the go location, or office.
We are committed to providing value in our products – we always say our customers don’t come back because they ran out, they come back for the next scent!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We love to take risks and try new things – so there will always be some bumps but our agility and flexibility for our business and product keeps us prepared for any of those bumps and struggles. We started out primarily online only but one of our biggest struggles was getting the nerve to head over to markets to sell in person and to the public.
Some markets we have experienced have been pretty hard because the organizers prioritize other things other than creating a great place for patrons and vendors but we have found really awesome locations to go and showcase our business which allows us to keep growing and provide for our growing Chandlr family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Chandlr?
Chandlr Candles isn’t your typical candle brand, and that’s exactly the point.
We specialize in premium black sand wax candles, which is what sets us apart right out of the gate. Most people have never seen anything like it. The black granulated wax isn’t just a visual statement, it’s a functional one. Our candles burn 5 to 7 times longer than traditional wax candles, which means you’re not just buying something beautiful, you’re buying something that actually lasts. That’s the foundation of everything we do: no gimmicks, no filler, just a genuinely better product.
We’re based in McKinney, Texas, and we started as an online brand before expanding into farmers markets, which is something we’re really proud of. It forced us to earn every customer face-to-face. You can’t hide behind a pretty website when someone’s standing right in front of you asking questions. That direct connection to our customers shaped who we are. We know our buyers. We listen to them. And we build products around what they actually want.
Our scent library is bold, layered, and intentional. These aren’t the soft, forgettable fragrances you’ll find lining the shelves at a big-box retailer. We focus on complex, unexpected combinations that actually mean something, including custom blends you won’t find anywhere else. We offer our wax in 1lb and 8oz containers, as well as subscription boxes for those who want a steady rotation of new scents.
What I want readers to know most is this: Chandlr exists because the candle market was full of the same thing over and over. We showed up to do something different, and the response has been incredible. If you’ve been looking for a candle that actually makes a statement, this is it.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The home fragrance industry is shifting fast, and honestly, it’s overdue. The era of grabbing a candle off a Target shelf without thinking twice is fading. Consumers are getting smarter about what they’re buying and who they’re buying from. They want a brand with a point of view, a real story, and a product that actually delivers.
Scent is becoming personal in the same way fragrance and fashion are personal. People want something that feels like theirs, not something three million other people also have on their coffee table. That means bold, layered, unexpected scents win. Safe and generic loses.
Sustainability is coming for every corner of this industry too. Cleaner ingredients, smarter packaging, less waste. It’s not a trend at this point, it’s just the expectation.
The brands that come out on top over the next decade won’t just have great products. They’ll have communities. Real ones. Built on trust, consistency, and something worth talking about. That’s been our focus from day one, and we think it’s the only way to build something that actually lasts.
