Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Sutter.
Hi Kayla , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my LLC back in 2017 doing freelance and contract work while I was learning the industry from the inside. In 2020, I officially launched my agency and went fully independent after seeing a lot of red flags in the traditional marketing agency world. I noticed many agencies claiming to “do it all,” but behind the scenes, some of the services (especially web and Google-related work) were being outsourced or not handled with the level of care I felt clients deserved.
That experience shaped how I built my business. I focus on what I’m truly great at—social media, social ads, email marketing, and content creation—and I partner with specialists for everything else. I’m always transparent about that. My advice to business owners is to be cautious of agencies that promise every service under the sun. Outsourcing isn’t bad, but you deserve to know who’s actually doing the work and whether you’ll have access to them.
I take a lot of pride in being an extension of my clients’ teams, not just a contractor. I spend time learning the business, the story, and the people behind the brand so the content feels authentic—like it’s coming directly from them. I truly believe I’ve gotten to where I am by being honest about what I can and can’t do, operating with integrity, and always following through on what I promise.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been really fortunate that overall, the road has been relatively smooth, and I don’t take that for granted at all. HOWEVER, that doesn’t mean there haven’t been challenges. Entrepreneurship can be isolating, mentally draining, and sometimes straight-up scary—especially when you’re the one responsible for everything.
The social media industry also changes by the minute, which keeps you on your toes. There’s always a new algorithm, new platform, or new “best practice” to keep up with. I’ve learned that staying curious, investing in continued education, and being willing to adapt makes a huge difference. And honestly, finding other business owners to build community with has been one of the biggest game-changers for getting through the tough or lonely days.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Social Sutter. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At its core, my business is built around one simple belief: social media isn’t just a box to check—it’s a long-term brand asset. We help businesses treat it that way. We specialize in social media strategy, content creation, social media advertising, and email marketing, and we’re known for helping brands show up online in a way that actually feels like them, not like a generic marketing agency wrote their captions.
What sets us apart is how deeply we integrate with our clients’ teams. We don’t operate as a distant vendor—we operate as an extension of the business. That means taking the time to understand the story, voice, goals, and people behind the brand so the content feels authentic and aligned. Our clients often tell us that no one can tell we’re not in-house, which is the biggest compliment we can receive.
We also don’t believe in cookie-cutter packages. Every client’s business, goals, and capacity look different, so our services are custom-tailored to meet their specific needs. Rather than claiming to “do it all,” we focus on what we’re truly experts in and partner with specialists for anything outside of that scope. We’re transparent about who’s doing the work and why, which builds trust and leads to better results.
One thing that really sets us apart is that we don’t lock clients into long-term contracts. We want clients to work with us because they want to, not because they signed a piece of paper. That keeps us accountable and ensures the relationship stays rooted in trust and results.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built around integrity and follow-through. We don’t oversell, we don’t overpromise, and we care deeply about the people behind the brands we work with. I want readers to know that when they work with us, they’re not just hiring a marketing service—they’re gaining a partner who is genuinely invested in their growth, their story, and the long-term value of their brand.
What makes you happy?
My family is at the top of the list—especially getting to watch my daughter grow and learn something new seemingly every day (she’s 18 months and this season has been SO fun). That perspective alone keeps me grounded and grateful. My dog brings so much simple, everyday joy, and my faith in Jesus gives me peace, direction, and a sense of purpose.
I’m happiest when I’m experiencing something new—there’s nothing like the rush of going somewhere I’ve never been before or tasting something I’ve never tried before. I also love that deep sense of accomplishment that comes from finishing a project I’ve poured real time and energy into. And honestly, being outside resets me more than anything—fresh air, sunshine, a body of water, and a little space to breathe go a long way for me.
