Community Highlights: Meet Tanu Sehgal of Tanu yoga and sound healing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanu Sehgal.

Tanu, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
For me Yoga and spiritual path wasn’t a choice I made one day. It was a heritage I stepped into. I grew up in India watching my mother practice yoga and pranayam (breathwork) every single day. That daily ritual became the heartbeat of my own life and for the last 20 years, yoga has been my constant. I have grown from practicing and learning yoga to eventually teaching.
I often tell people that yoga isn’t just a career for me. I have surrendered to this ancient Indian wisdom because it truly is a way of life. It’s the tool I’ve relied on to navigate the highs and lows centering and grounding me through every transition.
We live in a world where everyone is rushing and we’ve collectively forgotten how to simply breathe and let go. Seeing the transformation in my students, watching them reclaim control over their breath and find stillness in their minds is my ultimate driving force. Stepping into the role of a teacher isn’t just about the physical postures. It’s about helping my community improve their quality of life, one breath at a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say the road has been bumpy but it has definitely been a journey of intentional evolution. My biggest challenge hasn’t been finding my footing but rather staying true to the depth of my practice in a fast paced and competitive industry.
Currently, I’m focused on making my mark with my newly acquired Sound Healing skills. It’s a rewarding process of layering these healing frequencies onto the foundation I’ve already built. For me, the ‘struggle’ is simply the beautiful work of educating the community on how much deeper the yoga experience can go when we combine breath, movement and sound.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Tanu Yoga and Sound Healing I help people rediscover the power of their own breath. I specialize in Hatha Yoga and traditional Pranayam. I’m also gradually integrating sound healing to my practice.

What sets me apart is my years of foundation in these practices rooted in my upbringing in India. I am forever a student of yoga. I continue to practice and train under different teachers of Hatha and Ashtanga yoga in India.
I am most proud of building a brand that stays true to its ancient roots while evolving to meet the needs of a busy, modern world.

I want readers to know that whether they are new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, my goal is to help them find a moment of true surrender through movement and frequency.

Any big plans?
My focus for the future is on expansion and immersion. Having successfully integrated sound healing into my practice, I am now planning more large scale community Sound Bath events, yoga retreats and collaborative workshops across DFW. My goal is to make these multi sensory healing experiences accessible to more people especially those in high stress environments. I’m also looking forward to deepening my own studies in sound therapy and ashtanga yoga to continue bringing the most authentic and effective healing techniques to my students.
