Community Highlights: Meet Natalie Morse of Flourish Counseling Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Morse.

Hi Natalie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey there, my name is Natalie Morse. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Supervisor designation, a Registered Play Therapist (Play Therapy means age/ developmentally appropriate type of Therapy for kids!), and trained in EMDR (a modality used to treat trauma). Essentially what all that means is, I am a Therapist who works with all ages across the lifespan treating a variety of mental health issues.

I have spent the last decade working as a Mental Health Therapist that primarily specializes in the treatment of eating disorders, body-image struggles, perfectionism, and anxiety. After several years of gaining experience in the Clinical setting treating both pediatric and adult eating disorders, I decided to open my own private practice. In 2018, I started the practice Flourish Counseling Center! What started out as just me, has grown into a practice with several other incredible, qualified mental health providers. I value being able to have ownership over the mission and brand of Flourish. I appreciate the flexibility I am afforded, so that I am able to show up for my kids!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is not an easy endeavor. Like many of you, I found myself juggling different roles in life specifically of note being a wife and a mother of three (including a special needs daughter). The most challenging struggle for me has been the limitations of time and mental bandwidth. A very large hiccup in the Flourish story happened in 2023 when I had a stroke that led to emergency brain surgery, time in the ICU, and significant time recovering. I would not have been able to do any of this without tremendous support from family, friends, and colleagues. I started small and gradually built something over time that I am very proud of. In spite of the obstacles I have faced, I have been able to create and sustain this practice. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to live out your calling, and I consider myself very blessed to do so.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Flourish Counseling Center, we treat many mental health concerns including eating disorders, body-image struggles, perfectionism, OCD, anxiety, depression, trauma, self injury, and suicidal ideation. We typically treat young women and adolescent girls on the verge of needing a higher level of care for their eating disorder or stepping down from a higher level of care. We specialize in helping our client and their families navigate through the complexities that come along with managing a severe eating disorder. We help oversee their treatment by connecting them with qualified providers including eating disorder informed Primary care Physicians, Registered Dietitians, and Psychiatry. We also offer family and parent education to help parents know how. to set healthy boundaries around their child’s eating disorder behaviors. In the community, we work to provide education on implementing a healthy view of food and body-image, which is a challenge in a culture that is seeped with “diet talk” and social media pressures to be perfect. At Flourish, our mission is to help women and teen girls find self-worth that extends far beyond their image. As a mother of three daughters, I feel this on a deeply personal level.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up here, and still live here! There is no better place on earth than where your family, friends, and support system are. I am lucky enough to have lifelong friends in the area (including my husband who I met in Kindergarten!). I am kept very busy outside of operating Flourish by my three daughters (twins are 11 and my youngest is 8). Reading is my favorite coping skill and hobby among traveling, staying active, and spending time with my family! My faith as a Christian plays a large role in my life, and is where I find peace and purpose.
