Today we’d like to introduce you to Harbhajan Singh Virdee.

Hi Harbhajan Singh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Uganda in 1955 and enjoyed my childhood among children from different backgrounds, cultures and traditions. At the age of 16 I moved to England and completed my high school and college education while doing community volunteering. I came to USA in 1984 as a telecommunications engineer and enjoyed my work, successful procuring multiple patents in the telecommunications technology. It has been my passion to create understanding between people of different faiths and traditions so for almost the past 30 years in Dallas area, I have been member of Interfaith Council of Thanksgiving Foundation in Dallas. I am also a member of Faith Forward Dallas and a founding member of Interfaith Alliance of Irving. I have initiated and supported many community activities and projects to help the needy.
I am also currently the President and one of the founding members of Gurdwara Nishkam Seva, a Sikh Temple in Irving, Texas that helps in providing the selfless service for the wider community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes, there have been challenges along the way, especially balancing the work, family and community aspects.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My career and professional life in the telecommunications field has challenged me to work with many other professionals to create successful products. I learned to inculcate team spirit and inclusiveness in the projects that I managed. Also the travel to various countries required by my work broadened my understanding of different cultures.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe listening to others viewpoint is very important. Also collaboration rather than control is the key to successful outcomes.
