Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Patrick.
Amanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always had a camera in my hand since I could remember. I grew up as an only child of my father and I always enjoyed being able to look back after a summer of family, friends & experiences. My teenage years were full of countless disposable cameras and anxious visits to the store to pick up my developed photos.I would then hang up all of this random photos on my wall. I had some kind of vision back then? 🙂
It was after I met my husband, that I got my first digital point & shoot from his parents as a Christmas gift. I was obsessed with photographing everything around me. After having our son, Luke, I invested in my first Nikon DSLR to get better quality images. I remember printing out all of these up close photos of his face like I was some kind of professional!
My hobby recently grew into a side business. I did a model call about a year ago and have stayed pretty busy since then. I enjoy shooting couples the most. As an introvert, I sometimes have a hard time conveying the idea in my head. But with couples, they are already in love and I am really there just to document that. My focus for the future will be to move into the wedding industry. I have one wedding booked for this year so that’s exciting!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The business side is something I do enjoy but can be a struggle for me. Trying to juggle social media updates, marketing and booking sessions, it can be hard to keep a creative flow going.
Amanda Patrick Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
If I am asked, I will do posed sessions with my clients but I do enjoy the unposed, candid shots. One of my favorite photos is of a little girl twirling around in her dress. Being able to show movement in my photos is something I am constantly seeking. I believe that is what sets me apart from the traditional photographer.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was photographing an engagement session last fall and the client reached out to me a few weeks later to book me for their wedding. That speaks a lot to how they entrust me with such an important day in their lives.
