Meet Emily Harms of Hotel Crescent Court

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Harms.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Emily. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Originally from Dallas, I moved to New York after high school to pursue a dance career. When injuries forced me to stop dancing, I spent several years working at Equinox Fitness Clubs.

I moved back home in 2010 and began working at The Mansion Restaurant at Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek. I ended up meeting the love of my life at the Mansion (Jared Harms, currently Exec Chef at the Fairmont, also featured on Voyage Dallas!), and we got married in January 2014.

That’s when I found my second love: weddings! Shortly thereafter I joined the team at Hotel Crescent Court, as a Social Catering Manager, and have been planning weddings and events ever since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
When you work all day with Brides and Grooms, and their families, it can have its challenges. Planning a wedding is stressful, and there are a lot of emotions running through all those involved.

In the last 3.5 years, I have done over 150 weddings and related events, and every client is different. I work really hard to make sure each client is happy, and that everything goes as smooth as possible.

We have an amazing team here at Hotel Crescent Court, from the Front Desk and Valet to the Banquets and Kitchen staff, and we will always do everything we can to ensure every detail is exactly as requested.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing my clients during their event, with big smiles on their faces, having the time of their lives.

Please tell us about Hotel Crescent Court.
Hotel Crescent Court is a beautiful venue for weddings and other events, with so many intimate and elegant spaces. But what really sets us apart is our deep-rooted Texan hospitality, and how each of our associates genuinely cares about our guests. The Chefs are always working hard to ensure the food is excellent every time.

The servers, many of whom have been here 20+ years, treat each guest like family. I love hearing stories from my clients about how someone they know got married here years ago, or how they grew up always wanting to get married here. We are part of the fabric of Uptown Dallas, and it is great to be a part of that history.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have taken business courses in college. Originally my dream was to be a professional dancer, so my degree is in Modern Dance. Every semester my mother would suggest that I should take a business course, but I could never fit it into my schedule with all my dance classes.

When I got injured, I had to completely shift gears. While I have been incredibly fortunate to have had wonderful mentors every step of my career, I think it would have been beneficial to have more of a business background upon entering the workforce.
