Community Highlights: Meet Laszlo Pek Mrazovac of Elite Protection Dogs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laszlo Pek Mrazovac.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Elite Protection Dogs: A Legacy Built on Generations of Working Dogs

Elite Protection Dogs did not begin as a modern luxury service—it was shaped over decades through real working dog experience, long before the concept of a “family protection dog” became known in the United States.

The story traces back to 1962, when the Mrazovac family began breeding and training working dogs in Europe. At that time, the focus was not companionship or lifestyle integration, but performance. Dogs were prepared for demanding roles—supporting law enforcement, military operations, and security services where reliability was not optional.

By the late 1990s, Laszlo Pek Mrazovac and Martina Pek Mrazovac became deeply involved in the family operation. Between 1998 and 2009, they worked within the established European system, gaining hands-on experience with large-scale breeding programs and structured training environments. During this period, they were part of a facility that housed dozens of working dogs, focusing on German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Dobermans, and Rottweilers—breeds known for their capability, stability, and adaptability.

In the early 2000s, a shift began to take shape. While the traditional working dog world remained focused on institutional use, Laszlo and Martina recognized a different need—private individuals and families seeking a higher level of personal security without sacrificing companionship. Around 2002, they began working with clients in the United States, introducing the concept of a dog that could live inside a home, integrate with a family, and still perform when protection was required.

This approach was not widely understood at the time. Protection dogs were often seen as either aggressive guard animals or strictly professional working dogs. The idea of combining stability, social behavior, and real protection capability required a different type of selection, a different type of training, and a deeper level of development.

From 2009 to 2016, as majority owners of Mrazovac K9, the operation expanded significantly. Training fields increased, kennel capacity grew, and the focus on structured development intensified. During this period, thousands of dogs were bred, raised, and trained, contributing to a growing body of experience that would later define the Elite Protection Dogs program.

At the same time, their work extended beyond personal protection. In the early 2000s, they became involved in Search and Rescue, eventually mentoring teams that would go on to achieve international recognition. Under their guidance, the Romanian National Team reached the highest levels of competition, becoming World Champions in 2017 and 2018, and Vice World Champions in 2020. These results reflected not only training ability, but a deep understanding of canine behavior, selection, and long-term development.

In 2021, Laszlo and Martina moved their focus more directly to the United States, establishing their business presence and continuing to manage their European operations. By 2023, the Elite Protection Dogs brand had become the central expression of their work—bringing together decades of European working dog experience and adapting it to modern American families.

Today, Elite Protection Dogs represents a specific category that did not exist in its current form decades ago. These dogs are not trained for sport, and they are not limited to controlled environments. They are raised and prepared for real life—homes, travel, public environments, and unpredictable situations—while maintaining a stable, social presence within a family.

The training process reflects this purpose. Dogs are not only taught commands but are developed through exposure to real-world environments—busy streets, public spaces, vehicles, and family settings. They are expected to remain calm and neutral in everyday life, yet capable of decisive action when a situation demands it.

What distinguishes Elite Protection Dogs is not a single method or technique, but the accumulation of experience behind each dog. Selection begins early, often at eight weeks of age, with careful evaluation of temperament and behavior. From there, development is structured over time, focusing on clarity, stability, and reliability.

For clients, these dogs represent more than security. They become part of the household—living in the home, traveling with the family, and integrating into daily routines. The protection aspect remains present, but it does not define the dog’s entire role. Instead, it exists as a capability that is always available, without disrupting normal life.

As the demand for personal security continues to evolve, Elite Protection Dogs stands as a reflection of how the role of working dogs has changed. What began as a traditional European working dog program has developed into a specialized offering tailored to private clients—combining performance, stability, and companionship in a way that reflects both heritage and modern expectations.

The result is not simply a trained dog, but a continuation of a legacy built over generations—adapted to a different world, but grounded in the same principles that defined it from the beginning.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, and that is exactly what shaped Elite Protection Dogs.

In the early years, working with police and military dogs meant constant pressure—every dog had to perform in real situations, with no room for mistakes. Later, when introducing family and personal protection dogs, the challenge shifted to building trust. People did not understand how a dog could be both safe in a home and capable of real protection.

As the business grew, maintaining quality became another challenge. Not every dog meets the standard, and many are removed early, which requires time, patience, and investment. Expanding into the United States also meant starting over in many ways—adapting to a new market while proving credibility again.

It has been a process of constant pressure, adjustment, and discipline. That is what built the level of quality behind the dogs today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Elite Protection Dogs?
Elite Protection Dogs is a specialized company focused on developing family and personal protection dogs for private clients. We breed, raise, and train dogs that are prepared for real life—living inside the home, traveling with the family, and being present in everyday environments—while also providing a high level of personal security when it is truly needed.

Our work is built on generations of experience with working dogs in Europe, originally in police, military, and service environments. Over time, we adapted that knowledge to a different purpose: creating dogs that are not only capable of protection, but stable, social, and reliable in a family setting. That balance is where our specialization truly lies.

What sets us apart is not just training, but the entire development process behind each dog. Selection starts early, with a strong focus on temperament. From there, every dog is raised and prepared through structured exposure to real-world situations—public places, travel, different environments, and daily life scenarios. The goal is not a dog that performs in controlled conditions, but one that understands how to behave in the real world without creating stress for the owner.

We are known for producing dogs that are clear in their behavior. Calm and social in normal life, yet capable of responding when a situation crosses a line. That clarity is what allows our clients to live with confidence, not restriction.

What we are most proud of is consistency. Not every dog makes it through our program, and we are strict about that. The result is that every dog we place represents the same level of reliability, not just in training, but in temperament and behavior.

Our readers should understand that these are not typical dogs, and this is not typical training. These dogs are fully prepared before they ever meet their new family. The transition is not about starting from zero—it is about building a bond with a dog that already understands how to live, behave, and protect when necessary.

At the end, what we offer is simple to understand, even if it is complex to create: a dog that fits into your life naturally, and stands ready in the background as a form of security you can trust.

What are your plans for the future?
Our focus for the future is very clear—continue improving the quality of our dogs while expanding in a controlled and responsible way.

We already operate on a 30-acre facility, which gives us the space and environment to develop our dogs the right way. Moving forward, the goal is to continue refining what we do within that space—improving our training fields, expanding real-life scenario setups, and creating even better conditions for each stage of a dog’s development.

At the same time, we are strengthening our presence in the United States, building closer relationships with clients and offering a more direct, hands-on experience during and after placement.

We are also refining our training programs further, with more focus on real-world exposure and individual development. Every dog should not only be trained, but truly prepared for the life it will live.

In addition, we are expanding toward government and professional sectors, supplying dogs for higher-level security roles, which aligns with our background and experience.

The direction is simple—grow, but without ever compromising the standard. Everything we do moving forward is focused on maintaining and improving the level of quality behind every dog we deliver
